Certainly doesn't look like we enter October like a dessert. Soil moisture overall would favor a normal temp profile for the first part of the month. However, that would be unusual given the past 5 years.  Also taking note that the AO is going towards more neutral, the NAO expected to turn negative, and the PNA after going on a major dive into negative territorry it may flip dramatically back to positive in early October.

I saw a firefly last night!

I had a feeling we were going to have a second instance of them as I've been noticing their larvae in the grass when walking at night.

The last time we had a second run was fall of 2017 and 2009.

The air feels fantastic this AM.  Windows open, whole house fan on low.  Yesterday was oppressive to say the least.  Replacing a water tank and I was sweating like a damn pig!  Enough of the July weather, I am ready for fall!

Local CoCoRaHs reported 1.60" from yesterday. Makes a lot of sense compared to the radar estimates of 0.80", which were obviously too low just based on how hard it rained for some of the time.

Again...the wind was really impressive and it was a lot more consistent than most of your standard thunderstorms.

Did you notice any damage during your long walk post-storm late on Thursday?

Surprisingly none to be found. Not sure if some of the weaker limbs got taken out by prior storms or what, but I’m shocked that there weren’t at least medium-sized limbs strewn about. Certainly small limbs, but nothing of note.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY
MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Virginia and eastern West
Virginia, including the following areas: in Virginia, Albemarle,
Augusta, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Eastern Highland, Greene,
Nelson, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah
and Western Highland. In eastern West Virginia, Eastern Grant,
Eastern Pendleton, Hardy, Western Grant and Western Pendleton.

* From this evening through Wednesday morning.

* Showers and thunderstorms are expected late Tuesday night into
Wednesday across the watch area. Given the local enhancement of
the higher terrain and a very moist air mass, expecting an inch or
two of rain with locally higher amounts possible. This could lead
  to instances of flash flooding.
