I was just looking at radar and thinking your yard is finally getting some good rain.

Why are they expanding the FFW eastward?  Models and current radar trends still look to be centered on the mountains…. I guess the WB 18Z NAM did shift a little eastward,

FFG is probably pretty low in parts of SE MoCo and Fairfax at this point. There's already renewed radar returns near Standardsville, Stafford/S of Manassas. Wouldn't take much to get flooding again. Further, The NAM 12km might miss smaller scale features that could still drop heavy rainfall.

An observation on the FF Warning that was issued last night/early morning. I don't think I've ever seen them issue a warning for NW Arlington. Here in Arlington we only have North and South Arlington (S. Arlington represent!).  They may have even called it "northwestern Arlington".

Walking to work this morning, it felt like there was a waterlogged, moldy blanket wrapped around me from head to toe. Seriously unpleasant.

Also, on some of the grassy areas between office building parking lots and the sidewalk, the in-ground sprinklers are still set to go off every morning at 5, no matter how much rain has fallen recently (also spraying the sidewalk rendering it temporarily unusable). What's the point of that except to deliberately waste water and provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes?

Same.  Another 0.8” last night.

I saw the blob of rain heading up 95 when I went to bed last night, but was surprised to see how much rain fell when I went outside this morning. I'm guessing we got 0.5-0.6" or so from that.

Just a crazy tropical-feeling week or so period here. I can't recall a one like it recently.

I scored another 0.02”. Amazing how things have exploded literally less than 5 miles from me so much in the last two days.  Last nights radar loop being a perfect example. Only about 0.5” total this week while places very close probably have 2”+.

The good part about last night was that areas around IAD finally got into the action.

One notable thing about today, after a stagnant summer, is that the clouds are really moving.  Gives the sky a different look.

1.1" since midnight. Large difference/distance. Small but strong cell. Peak 3.5"/hr.

Wow, that is quite the difference. Are you west of York Rd? I have no idea what radar looked like, but I'm going to guess my house was clipped by the heavier rain you got.
