Oh, I forgot to mention that I was in a pretty good thunderstorm yesterday afternoon that dumped 0.21".  This was the first measurable for this month.  I'll have to go back and look at end of July to see when last precip day was.  Obviously grass all around here is getting pretty brown.

This is remarkable. I 've lost track of how many downpours we have had. i still need to cut about every 5 days.

HMMM....seems like more data reporting issues that include the NWS.

KLNS data for last couple days.  I live 5 miles from this station and received easily between 1.5-2'' in the last 2 days.  Friends to the W of this location also told me they received heavy rains both days.......and somewhere in between... .03.  yeah right.

@pasnownut doesn't look like that would even be possible - on both days, there were hourly obs of heavy rain, and on both days an additional hourly observation of light rain. How heavy rain only produced .01" yesterday...meh.

I received .89" for the past 2 days, and a lot of areas surrounding me did better. Far better.

It was 70 when I left this morning.  Not too bad . Usually overnight lows stay in the low mid 70s when mby makes a run at upper 90s but well see . Yesterday hi 94

I saw 70-71 on car themo...

I also agree that when overnight lows don't get below 70 that normal diurnal heating with no major adjustments to pattern makes a run at 90+ pretty easily achieved here in LSV.  Looking forward to the cool down this weekend.

I started yesterday at 70...thought it would be a stretch to reach 95, as most really hot days start off closer to the mid 70s. Anyway, I was at 97 by 2:45pm when the clouds moved in ahead of the first storm. I thought it was very impressive to get that high starting off at 70. Absent that mid-afternoon storm, I would have approached 100 yesterday.

agreed.  if you look at hourly obs....heavy rain w/ no qpf raises ones eyebrow....or should.  Trust me....both days had at LEAST 20-30 min of mod/heavy steady rain.  Last evening closer to 1 hr.  I'm callin foul....

Thats funny.  I thought w/ the early sun and visible satellite showing little to no clouds, that we were going to run a good number for yesterday...and we did.  Although i was surprised on way home from office, that temps were only in 85-88 range on car thermo (w/ partly sunny skies).

I started off yesterday with a low of 66.9 and ended up hitting 98.1 before the storm arrived.  Picked up a whopping 0.10" from it.  My low this morning was 66.7.  Today is forecast to be hotter than yesterday so I think I've got a pretty good shot at 100 (not that I'm routing that on)!

KLNS is having issues.  Clearly not able to collect rainfall correctly at the moment.  I have multiple friends who live basically right by the airport and it completely trounced that entire area.  The station is just malfunctioning in some respect, which it is know to do from time to time.  Horst has pointed it out to them a couple times over the years as well.  Anyway, I got .54" last night.  Loving these summertime storms but man this heat today and tomorrow is going to be stifling, and my dad has me power washing for him tomorrow ugh.

Then they should put disclaimer "N/A" to let people know it is not functioning because some folks could skew that for other purposes.  I'm sure the NWS uses those "totals" when making drought forecasts etc....

Just saying.

If were all about the data.....lets get it right.  No reason for this to be an ongoing issue.  Plenty of areas around that airport to put a better weather station.

Oh I completely agree.  Sadly, I wonder how intently these stations are being monitored half the time.  Sometimes it takes someone from the public (e.g. Horst) having to point it out to them for it to even be noticed, which shouldn't be the case.  So, I just checked all the WU stations directly surrounding the airport and yeah, they have all gotten 2.5"+ the last couple of days haha.

That's an impressive turnaround in temps yesterday - when did you reach 98? That was before traditional peak heating time, correct?

Obviously, not very intently at all. Shame. As you and Nut pointed out, people rely on official stations for information. Knowing that this is a reality makes me feel even better that I track/record my own personal data. (not that I would ever assume that what I receive would match LNS or MDT anyway)

High temp was recorded at 3:31pm which would be within an hour of the typical time of high temps.  It was the drop in temp associated with the glancing thunderstorm that sent it down 22 degrees to 76 in under 30 minutes.  I mentioned yesterday that the heat index which was 108 dropped 30 degrees to 78.

I have rarely seen dewpoint this high with temps this high as well. This is basically hell for me. 5 min walk and I’m drenched. Had to sit in front of a/c. But I was wearing all black. What’s astonishing is I could run in this, light color shorts, no shirt and do a few miles easy
