There's something interesting happening at the storm-scale level that is causing these quick ups, but relative inability to sustain, wonder what it is? Part of why we are seeing such a messy storm mode right now is because the low hasn’t begun to deepen. Surface winds are out of the SW across much of MS and some parts of AL which is limiting favorable directional shear for discrete to semi-discrete cells. It looks like the cell is starting outrun that now. Once it finishes ingesting this last bit of convection it looks like the inflow notch might clear out. We'll see what happens.
