Convergence setting up with SW winds near Chat. ridge and NW winds out of Canada! The best events occur when this happens. Can you imagine what this event would have been with a open lake? Would have been Nov 2014 all over again.

With the northeast end of the lake wide open and the fetch primarily running right over the open water, does it matter that the rest of the lake is frozen?  Not like the rest of the lake was “contributing” much to the lake effect. Either that or the ice is thin enough where fetch is passing over to allow for uplift which then gets supercharged when it hits the open water. Anyway, fascinating stuff!  I’m heading south soon to chase.

It definitely matters. Ice limits the natural process of LES. The less moisture is available when there is ice coverage. The reason why the best bands in history are over the tug is because of the 3 lake connection. It grabs moisture from 3 lakes and pounds it on the tug. The greater the amount of available moisture the greater the potential band strength.

No I wish I was though. I’ve been at this firm for two 3 winters now and have yet to enjoy and event like this. We do have some pretty badass snow removal equipment that I’m sure will be put to the test tomorrow. I’ll post some pics Monday. Meanwhile here in sunny clarence :sun:
