I just did not get as much freezing rain as 3miles to my south.  Dogwood tree is steady for measuring  and it’s got 0.1 but not .2 on it.

I think 1999 was .5.  1999 was eerie

All that ice made it “white “ at night as it was pitch black all lights and power out.

vey very quiet except for the awful splintering sound of huge tree limbs. Never heard such a painful to hear shredding and cracking sound. Like something living was being torn apart....because....it was.

I think this IS as good an outcome as possible for freezing rain. It’s 27 and dark and that’s a big difference between 29/30 this afternoon mid Feb. Could mid Jan have squeaked out another 1-1.5F colder?

Sure not the wholesale outages pre Pepco trimming days. It’s still a dangerous event though.

That was the sound heard here in Oct 9/10 1979 when 4-10 inches of heavy wet snow fell on still leafed out (but turning) trees. Just the continuous pop, pow, snap, bam from trees breaking.

Wow. It snowed in Beltsville that night and earliest on record for me. The sound sticks with you.

Looks like mostly sleet now, but has gone back and forth between freezing rain and sleet most of the day so far.  Went for a Jebslide (@Jebman, I think that's an appropriate term for a Jebwalk in ice??), kinda dangerous out on areas that weren't salted.  Stayed mostly on the crunchy grass.  Just eyeing it, looks like we're pushing maybe close to 0.2" accumulated on some branches I would guess.  Hope to post photos when I have a chance later on at some point.

That's it! That's a jebslide! That's a very good term for an Ice jebwalk lol!

I did a LOT of jebsliding in 1994! It wasnt just ice walking, I did a lot of literal sliding, too! Many times, that was the only way to get downhill!
