I know it wasn't much to write home about for much of the subforum but the 1/7/11 Norlun overperformed quite a bit in portions of SW CT.

Thanks for posting this! It was a great event, capped off by the epic blizzard a few days later.

I have been keeping a snow log for about 12 years now.  Here are my notes from that event:

01/07              8.5"       Norlun Madness.  Powerful h5 low over lakes, weak surface low

over ocean.  SW CT hit hard, but wide variations.  4" Westport 15"

Southbury.  Models, esp NAM did a great job here.

I can rember getting 4" in 90 minutes.

Yes, good notes. I remember my friend in Southbury reporting 14 or 15". I had about what you had, 8 or 8.5. I just remember the ratios were really good, probably around 20:1.

We did very nicely with that Norlun here in Southington..9+ I believe.  Was a fabulous month for sure.  After the boxing day mess and the total melt out by New Years too.  It definitely turned around a lil over a week later with this Norlun.

What did you get in boxing day? I know the big band was extreme wct down thru nyc/nenj into senj.

Thanks man. It's been a while, I was living out in the Milwaukee area for a little over a year and a half. Got home sick and came back, good to be home.

Right on man. I know the feeling. We moved to NC late Jan 2013 and I just missed an all timer ...and by Sept, we were both home sick so we moved back in Oct.

Around the same at 9" at least here... far less impressive considering the type of event and the dry slot from hell. This is probably the only Norlun I can remember off hand here lol.

Ah ok. I think DXR pulled 19” iirc correctly. Must of been a sharp cutoff heading east on 84. I was in CNJ at the time and piled up 24” inside the band.

Wow, and that was warm NC and you had someone with you lol. I lucked out last winter there. 6th warmest on record and almost 60 on Christmas Day.
