Thats not true.. its about the same... just a couple of years ago at this time we had 3 weeks where it didnt get above 20 degrees.  Climo on the earth doesnt really fluctuate over centuries.. you have to look at geologic time.. ice ages etc.  We have urban heat effect and changes in the way people collect data.. and we see temp fluctuations of a half a degree or something.. thats really it.  

And those fluctuations are  basically insignificant given year to  volatility

I will be the first to admit that we live in very unusual circumstances. Furthermore abrupt climate change will involve significant cold outbreaks albeit ephemerally.

There is a high degree of truth to your statements but without context you are doomed to be surprised and incapacitated by the world.

Wow...the Panic Room is looking more busy than the Medium Range thread!  That must say something.

I suppose the Reaper, in his holiday spirit, is getting ready for those weenie souls who need sanctuary this Holiday season!  I like how he's decking the place out this year!

Come January 15th and the blocking is gone and we still haven’t had any real cold weather - room rates will be increasing drastically.  I still think we get our snow on January 14th- but I’ve been wrong before.  Happy Holidays Reaper!,

Hurricane Joaquin was like a summer-adaptation of Boxing Day 2010 only adjusted east. I feel your pain.

On principle I refuse to be reaped before February, and I really enjoyed a December snow this year...

 

But it's getting kind of funny to hear about all of the positive forces we have working for us right now and to see the long range on all the models and see nothing out to 240 hours.

 

I really want my first true large snowstorm. One day!

Turning east off of the Beltway - where it was brown and dry - heading to Bowie where it was snowing and windy - picked up over half an inch with fingery drifts across the street

You can kind of feel it...Christmas is over, the snow from the last storm is long gone...and the pattern looks rough moving forward despite blocking. It's been quiet, but things are destined to pick up soon.

Picked up some Christmas snow down here yesterday. If we start chasing d10 patterns that never come, I'll be checking no later than 1/15/21.
