33 was the low... frost on the roof this morning, leaves are turning quickly.  With beautiful weather the next two days, time to tidy up the garden, finish last minute projects and put things away for the season.

Only 55 for a high today, which is the 3rd day in a row AOB 60 for a high temp.  Picked up another 1.07" of cold rain, and counting.  Now up to 6.44" for Sep.  Should cross the 7" threshold with more rains coming tonight and tomorrow.

Nice west to east gradient across northern IL.  2.27" at ORD for the month.

It's been gloomy the past couple days, but the storms on the 7th were top notch. They weren't severe but they produced the best lightning of the year by far. There were several supercell structures embedded on the south side of a big blob running along the frontal boundary, and they periodically blasted the rain free portion with huge CG bolts. I swear it's fall/winter that give the best storms here in IL. It must be those colder cloud tops.l1.thumb.jpg.9208250511a6ea14b3917a0a0f13ac0f.jpg

cool rolling shutter effect from my dashcam picked up some streamer bolts before the main strike

Persistent cloud cover over the past few days have kept highs in the 60s and lows in the mid 50's. Forecast low for last night was 46F, but due to extensive cloud cover we only got down to ~53F. Some places just north of here in cottage country were also expected to get down into the mid 30's but widespread cloud cover prevented that.

And today was our turn. Suicide weather with wall-to-wall overcast conditions and a high of only 69 today without rain. :axe: First day with a high temperature not even reaching 70 since the end of May.

I don’t think we’ll go a five day period this fall or winter with as little sun as we’re going to see from Tuesday through tomorrow.  Maybe we’ll get lucky the last few hours of daylight tomorrow.

More rain overnight and this morning has boosted my weekly total to 6.12".  Much of this rain has soaked into the soil, so the rivers across eastern Iowa have barely risen at all.  This is how you end a drought.

Indeed, it's been great to see.

Ended up with another 0.99" since last evening, pushing the event total (starting last Sunday morning) up to 7.54".  DVN is going to end up pretty close to 8".  Pretty productive setup to be sure.

Looks like we may see our first peek of the sun in quite awhile later on this afternoon.
