Is that an observation from recon?

No. That was a guess at what it could be, either at next advisory, or at landfall (context wasn't clear) But it is not a current recon observation.

Looks like Laura just crossed the 200 miles / 322 km point from furthest distance of a possible landfall tonight. Projected landfall at current rate of speed is right around 12-14 hours depending on on approximate location W of Port Arthur to right over Lake Charles.

Deff not on this pass, and probably not before landfall.

Hurricane Laura is not (yet) Category 5. Cloud tops around the eye would need to be colder. It does have a ragged look that is typical of still intensifying hurricanes. But, as with Michael (2008) that hit Florida panhandle, Laura could become Category 5 or close to it.

I am sorry, the wind shear does not seem like it will be a factor in weakening this monster of a hurricane.  Cirrus outflow continues to improve and expand in the western circulation.  Also water vapor, IR and visible imagery suggests that the trough over Texas is weakening or moving away from Laura as her upper level flow pushes the weaker systems away from the circulation of the hurricane.  The pressure of 963 mb had flight level winds over 130 knots.  Pressure is likely sub 949mb

They (NHC) probably make a special advisory. That's a big jump in intensity.

20 minutes before the full advisory? doubtful.
