Very impressive for being that far inland

30 miles of almost 98% swamp/marsh will do that.

Something odd going on in the eye. Reed's feed showing strong, swirling gusty winds and Josh also reporting the same thing in Sulphur.

Lake charles has been  stuck on the NE edge of the eye for an hour now. not quitting.   But josh looks more dead center.

The city's tallest office building, Capitol One Tower, is nothing but glass from base to its 310 high up roof. So it's probably busted all to hell.

Anyone know how the surge is in Lake Charles? Seems the surge has been on the low side of forecast fortunately.

Yeah seems not near as bad as Rita there so that’s good at least, wind as worse though.

Brandon Clement was saying that they may get bad surge on the back side from wind blowing over the lake. Not out of the woods yet unfortunately

Reeds abandoned car seems to have hit the eye.

i guess we're just waiting until it reaches the other side

maybe they'll leave it there through the rebuilding process

Lake Charles hasn't even seen minor flooding, and the level has receded with low tide.

I’m here in Iowa, LA and it’s insane in this NE eyewall.

Looks like you're in the brunt of it right now. Hopefully doing okay?

It has been incredible to witness, but I’m ok. I expect to see a lot of damage unfortunately in the morning. We’ve been getting hit relentlessly in this eyewall.

Intense convection still showing in NE eye wall on Shreveport radar. Storm structure on radar still looks very good. Going to be significant wind damage throughout a lot of western Louisiana.

Maybe some good news in that the surge largely went east of Cameron/Lake Charles in mostly unpopulated areas due to the track of the eye, but not sure it matters much due to the massive winds that lasted for a prolonged period in Lake Charles. From the stories this morning-very severe wind damage.
