Abundance of seals.  They have a buffet laid out for them now

That's the case, The seal population has exploded up here hence the attraction, You know how that goes, The herring show up, The pogies chase the herring, The seals chase the pogies, The sharks chase the seals, etc, etc.

There was an interesting read a few years ago on how the great whites started increasing off the Cape once the seal populations were rebounding....a delayed response to the protection of them in the 1970s. Apparently Great Whites were pretty common in the early days of settlement because seals were very prevalent. Then we started hunting the seals not long after we arrived and they steadily decreased....their demise accelerated in the late 19th and 20th century as fisherman started killing them off because they were competing for the same fish. The seals were nearly extinct on Cape Cod by 1970 and so were the great whites.....hard to believe now there are about 40,000-50,000 seals on the Cape now. Actually a pretty amazing conservation story....but it has meant an increase in the sharks.

Maine has similarly seen seal populations rise from their lows back in the 20th century. Sharks are going to go where the food is.

Ha!  One shark death in a 100 years and shut the ocean down... "abundance of caution" sounds familiar.

Tornado parameters are in place for a potential big storm to move through the Cape and Islands today and tonight.  High CAPE over 3000j/kg, and shear over 40-knots and low level shear near 20 knots, tornado parameters over 2 EHI, and 2 for the Violent Tornado Parameter.  Also a mesoscale low pressure was analyzed as of 400pm EDT in Cape Cod Bay of 1008mb.  This will enhance storm relative helicity and shear in the area.

Let’s see if this one holds up, Generally ones coming out of the Norway south Paris area usually get here.

Another one well south (along with the nice echoes well north.)  It's like the Whites help sustain the TS but the Mahoosucs kill them - or something.  Still have not seen a single lightning bolt this year, even after a significant amount of time on my front porch waiting and watching as thunder arrives.  Of course we scored multiple times June 28-July 14 but it's been pretty scratchy since then.  Our 2-day expert peer-review field trip is this coming Tues-Wed, probably means we get Isaias.  Having been gully-washed in NW Maine by the remains of Katrina in 2005 and dodging multiple TS (not always successfully) on these trips 2 years later, c'est la vie.

This cell was not bad, 35mph with the gust front and some sustained 10-15's not a whole lot of thunder or lightning, A quick 0.4"
