Central PA Summer 2020: Hoping The Heat Makes a Hasty Retreat

Recommended Posts

Meso discussion for us is outmcd1310.gif

Aforementioned strong surface heating will allow for the development
of steep low level lapse rates, and some mixing of the boundary
layer. As such, this will enhance strong downburst potential, and
clusters of damaging wind are likely. Some guidance suggests a
bowing segment or two could develop out of these thunderstorm
   clusters through outflow/storm-scale interactions/mergers or
smaller-scale cold pool development. If this occurs, any
forward-propagating bowing segment could increase the damaging wind
   threat locally.

Wooooo another heat advisory day!

I have a high dew (71) but a lower temp (85) which gives me a HI of 90. We have some work to do to reach advisory criteria.

In other news - I was reading some comments in LNP this morning from a met at CTP. He mentioned that temps have been running 5-10 degrees above normal, but that the heat isn't abnormal.

If the temps are running well above normal...wouldn't that be abnormal?

He's gonna look silly when Harrisburg crushes the previously hottest July on record.*

* I don't know for a fact that we are there yet, but last year's July was top 5 and we're wayyyy warmer than we were then.

I have grown tired of hearing the reasons that this has nothing to do with climate change or that things aren't abnormal.  The oceans are on FIRE.  As much as I respect a lot of local mets, it's insulting to my intelligence to see them continue to make excuses for the extremes we are seeing.

HRRR kills it for almost everyone which is a late surprise and disappointing.

Hopefully the next run brings the goods in a big way.

Looks like “it’s training time” for me here in southern York county.

I've had distant thunder for nearly an hour now and yet the sky looks almost exactly like it did an hour ago. Guessing flood advisories for you soon.
