torches right after tho.. the general trough west ridge east pattern is still there but a trough is undercutting it bringing colder air for the time being. then its off to the races

The models are backing off from the big warmup right now due to the omega block forming. We have to wait a little more longer for big heat.

Either way we will have warmer temps then the last month and half. Temps in the 70’s with a day or two in the 80’s.

Yes, next 3 days look warm to very warm especially Friday.

Next week is somewhat up in the air. We'll see how pessimistic models become but the risk of several cooler/wet days is there.

Unless the last week of May is a huge torch it'll be tough to wipe out the negative departures this month.

Mostly sunny and looking like one of those nuttin but blue skies days.

The cut off scenario looking more likely for next week so one past Saturday cooler and unsettled 5/17 - 5/21 before any chance of sustained warmth and the season's first 90s.  That looks more possible towards the last week of May (Memorial Day).

It’s unfortunately almost mid May and I haven’t had a spring feeling at all this year so far. Just haven’t had the weather to do outdoor stuff yet and always feel the need to have a sweater. At 44 I can’t remember a spring with such lack of heat.

Exactly, which is welcome after a terrible start to spring.  I'm okay with the big heat holding off until June tbh.

after one of the coldest Mays on record June 1967 was warm...it turned out the only Summer month with temps above average...80 degrees this time of year is seasonably warm...I'd like to see a hot summer day...I hope today was the last of the record cold...it could get hot for a day or two...Some years had their hottest period of the year around the end of May...1880 with three straight days over 95 comes to mind...1969 and 1987 too...

But I think April 09 had a mid 90s heat wave at the end of the month. May wasn’t great but it wasn’t cold. June 09 had about 20 days of rain and clouds, terrible month don’t remember cold cool yes. Then the last week of June 09 we roasted into the 4th.

NYC is at -5.3 for May through the 12th. April finished at -2.7. The last time NYC had a cold April and May was in 2003. So it will be interesting to see if the cool onshore pattern coming up is enough for May to finish below normal.

The April average temperature in NYC  is 53.0 and 62.4 in May

HI.  New to this site.  Was wondering if anyone can point an amateur in the right direction.

Looking for 3 years of data HI/LO Temps in NYC in an effort to do some analysis.

Over the last 3 calendar years  how many instances were actual NYC temps 95 degrees or greater for 4 straight days   & How many days were forecasted to be over 105 degrees.

Where can I find a record of forecasts ?  Where can I find a list of dates and actuals ?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated !

we need a good 3-5” soaker, miss them.

No we don't. Water levels are high, soil moisture is high, soil temps are cool for the time of year and the flora needs a dry warm(ish) week to really fill in. Many creeks and small rivers are running high and a 3+ incher would flood a lot of vulnerable areas.

NYC needs to make up 4.1 degrees by 5/31 to not finish top 10 coolest for May.  I'm sure it'll happen but it might not be by much.  1973 was the last May to average below 60.  2008 was close

Very unusual 1800’s style April maximum temperature and May minimum temperature. Even more out of place following the 4th warmest December through March. So there are no analogs for this type of extreme pattern reversal.
