What have you got against Norway

Many states (including Connecticut) consider them to be an invasive species:

Norway maple has been planted extensively as an ornamental tree and is now found invading natural areas where it often outcompetes native sugar and red maples and other deciduous trees. It has a rounded crown of dense foliage, and gray or brown bark that becomes rough and furrowed into narrow ridges as the tree ages. Its leaves typically remain green longer into the fall than other maples in Connecticut, and then turn yellow. The popular “crimson” varieties have deep maroon leaves throughout the growing season. Norway maple can be distinguished from other maples by the milky sap exuded from the end of leafstalks when they are broken off. Also, the seeds of Norway maple are flatter than seeds of sugar or red maple. Seedlings and saplings are shade tolerant and can quickly dominate the forest understory.

It is especially a concern in sugaring country.

ECOLOGICAL THREAT

  • Unlike native tree species, Norway maple hosts very few native caterpillars, reducing an important food source for bird populations
  • Native mammals do not recognize Norway maple seeds as a food source, further reducing native tree populations.
  • Norway maple (Acer platanoides) provides breeding habitat for another highly invasive species, the Asian longhorned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis), an insect that threatens to significantly reduce North American hardwood forest stands. Research shows female beetles will live longer and produce more fertile eggs on non-native Norway maples than on native red maples (Acer rubrum).

Yes my question to Brian was a joke about Norway.  Definitely an invasive species. Haven't seen the Acer Rubrum reference college lol

Lol. He’s actually pretty hilarious. It’s gotta be an act.

Never cared for him until Kev posted his ramblings every day, but now it’s just funny reading his posts. I wish someone would call him out on it but I have a feeling he is the type who just deletes the post and then blocks that individual.

Looks like a dramatic month of fortune reversals.

both winter the summer enthusiast get bonuses before month’s end.

snow chances this week shouldn’t be shocking relative to this pattern look.  Nor should the plausible climate correction pattern flip after mid month.

36.9 but some frost on rooftops.

Grass was pretty white here. Had to let the truck defrost for 5-10 mins too. I don’t radiate well but figured I was in trouble when it was 36/29 and calm when I went to bed around 10.

It’s rare to get 30s here this late in the season. Looks like more to come. :(

What a total pattern flip to warm / AN 15th on. Installs will be happening Regionwide early next week . Get em up and in so you’re not dripping sweat doing it.

Glad we moved into the current century and had central AC installed.  No more noisy machines.

We stick with window units just because I hate home AC.  We use it during heat waves but hours of AC makes me feel like shit.  That’s why in BN summers I never even install.  I do use it in the car though when necessary.

You’ve posted this about 20x since early March.

Glad we don't live here. 40s over low 20s into mid May would make me blow my brains out.
