I believe it is now 19 dead. I never and will never like severe weather season

I'm with you 100%.

Having said that, and this has been debated here and other places for a long time - I respect those that do. I might not share that passion with them BUT I understand it all the same. For a person who is a weather enthusiast and not just about snow, it's certainly interesting and fascinating to watch unfold. And I'm equally 100% sure that no severe weather enthusiast ever wishes death and destruction upon people...but it's a sad reality of nature at it's fiercest.

Thoughts are with those in Tennessee today at least 22 lives lost...awful and tragic night. As for severe weather...unfortunately all weather even ice and snow and squalls kill yearly...it’s just tragic circumstances.

My absolute greatest weather fear is seeing a tornado approaching my home. For it to happen during the cover of darkness is unfathomable to me.

It’s just awful man...I agree. That night will live in weather infamy forever. It reminds me of the horrible night in Kissimmee and surrounding areas in 1998 that took 42 lives.

Have had two hit mine in Texas (plus one tore the roof off our school during class). You oddly get "used" to severe weather there.

Tornadoes post 9 or 10 p.m. in an urban area = bad luck indeed.

Nighttime outbreaks are a pretty common occurrence in the early severe season in the deep south and TN Valley as they're more dynamically driven from the more potent storm systems you start seeing in the late winter/early spring months. These setups don't necessarily require daytime heating and can happen anytime of the day. This was the first major metro hit from a big tornado in awhile and it was pretty much a direct one unfortunately. It looked like the tornado just missed the Broadway area in downtown where the Bridgestone arena, Titan's Stadium, Country Music Hall of Fame and all the different honkey tonk bars, etc along Broadway are...plus all the surrounding high rises. Tons of people down there, especially on weekends.

Very true. Not going to debate winter versus severe because I know people have passion about severe weather but there is a difference in my mind.

Another tough fact is that we as a nation/race make movies and shows that highlight and sensationalize  the risks and downfalls of severe weather, banks being robbed, earthquakes, etc....and the profits from those ventures go to peoples pockets.  So our kids, and our parents kids and really anyone since the 1960's have been desensitized to the terror of being killed by a tornado or washed away by a surge.   So I think it is tough to be hard on weather enthusiasts when a large chunk of our entertainment economy is based on disasters.

As the front / line of thunderstorms approaches it is interesting to note that our pressure has once again dropped below 1000mb, now down to 998mb.  This is like the fifth or sixth time this winter we've had pressures below 1000mb.  The lowest station pressure for me this winter was 28.98" or 981mb back on Feb 7th.

Radar was impressive up your way.

Just a little rain and some wind here but it’s been windy since last Thursday so whatevs.

I'll never understand why it's always so windy here.

Shortly after my post last evening about the rain, a 2nd "cell" came through with moderate rain and high winds. I was looking at the max wind gusts throughout CTP and it was amazingly uniform in the 45-55mph range. Honestly, it sounded and looked windier than that.

Well, the Friday storm is probably gone, but the GFS keeps serving up another snow chance next week.

Maybe we still will get a chance at a late winter season game save ?

I stopped having hope 2 months ago because I'd see the same thing every other day that the models had some decent snowstorm 2 weeks out and it always ended up as nothing. It'd be nice sure but it's definitely not looking likely. Temps here are in the 50s and 60s for the next 2 weeks. I wish I was wrong lol but I guess Harrisburg is gonna end up at 5 inches for the entirety of the snow season.
