Only thing I can think of is it was pretty foggy before, and at the onset of precip.  Maybe the high saturation "water logged" the flakes as they hit the melting layer (around 500ft) and caused rapid melting?

All snow here now, and ripping pretty nicely.

That could be a very good point.

Wet bulb temps are also above 32 across a large area.

Great afd from the LOT.. What a top shelf crew they have and my go to way before the our office.

Exactly! I wish they did more updates and "nowcasts" during events like this but know they have an actual job to do! Today's was a great AFD.

...near Warning criteria snowfall before all is said and done,
somewhere in the I-90 corridor vicinity across parts of Kane,
McHenry, Lake, and far northwest Cook County.

RFD to DKB is going to be the sweet spot with the pivot

I was just going to ask the question where the best location is going to be. Now that the crappy rain is gone, this thing looks great on radar if you are north of I-88. Precip is also starting to fill in south along I-47. Aurora to Downtown Chicago has been the southernmost extent of the snow for a while.

Absolutely ripping. Best rates of the season, however low that bar is

Very nice.  Yeah this last wave was optimized for your area.

Still snowing quite nicely here as well.  Snow is fairly wet, so ratio is prob around or a bit under 10:1.  Flake size is medium, but pouring down nicely.  About an inch of fairly dense new snow so far.
