The wind shift just made it to Wantagh. The temperature rose from 27 to 30 in the last 15 minutes on the SE flow.

At my weather station on Fire Island the temperature is at 33*.  It’s been at that level  since about 1pm.  Winds have backed around to south but are not strong at 8mph with gusts to 11mph.

Over the last hour we had mostly light snow or no snow, getting only 1/4" more, so we're at 1.25". However, moderate snow is on our doorstep and will hopefully fall for the next hour or so, if the sleet can hold of (it has stalled out near Trenton). Temp is up to 26F.  Enjoying my walks outside and watching the young ones sledding across the street at a small hill, where I used to take our son (now 25) - by the time he was 11-12 we had to upgrade to driving out to Schooley Mountain in Long Valley.

Wow, got 1/4" over the last 15 minutes of moderate snow with gorgeous dendrites, as we're obviously getting very nice supersaturation-driven crystal growth up in the DGZ - don't usually get 1" per hour rates without heavy rates.  Up to 1.5".

33 now at Wantagh with the south wind gusting to 19 mph. Up 6 degrees in the last half hour.

I don't own any tools. Not my thing. It's under warranty and I have the number for a shop.

I gotcha. Good luck. Being new, and under warranty, they should take care of the issue. I would suggest getting some basic tools. There will be a time when there will be be no one to call, or no one will be able or willing to help.

Odd.....this is a powdery snow also. How’s the belt on it?

It's running rough like it's fuel starved. Could be a mouse got in there and clogged something up. Or bad gas, though my other snow blower worked fine on the same gas. A little snowmelt may have gotten into the fuel because the plastic cover on my portable gas can blew off. Or could be a spark plug. One clue, when I tilted it back to check the rotors, it ran a lot better. That sounds like some sort of fuel issue to my amateur self. I love the electric toro, but it is pain to deal with the extension. And the cordless ones just ain't there yet IMHO.

Oh that's happened a lot. I go to Home Depot, buy the tool I need. Then I quickly lose it. I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD.

A lakes cutter gives us a snow event

Weird

I can’t recall any case where we saw 2-3 inch amounts in the metro with a track like this.  The high was just well timed.  It wasn’t even in a great spot.  The storm just arrived with the high and the airmass in place.

1.5 sleet now ugh

Damn, same here with sleet snow mix (mostly sleet) - by the cc-radar a tongue of sleet looks to have developed along 78 from Allentown to Somerville and then along 287 to Perth Amboy.  Hoping the precip behind it, which is not showing a sleet signature is back to snow (with heavier precip - will see shortly as heavier precip is on our doorstep) and not freezing rain, since it's 26F at the surface and that would be a mess.
