First time out at the pond in the new year. Had some nice conditions this evening.

Started off with a vivid sundog on the south side of the Sun when I got out to the pond...

Close to local sunset. You can see just how far south the Sun is of those trees to the right which is close to due west...

I kept an eye out to the east and it is a good thing I did. The pinks went all out in that direction...

7V2A0026.thumb.JPG.94dffb9aadeedf206a413bd414ec401c.JPG

The west went to mega red for the post sunset, glorious ending...

As usual, thanks for all the views in the 2019 thread and I will be deleting those to make room for this year's crop as I go along.

^ thanks

Today I took a little afternoon nap. Did not mean to sleep so much but when I woke up the inversion had lifted out from the southeast. Did not have time to make it to the pond so I just walked to the corner to get as much sky as possible...

  • 2 weeks later...

Almost been two weeks since the last atmosphere image. I needed to get an updated booster in the memory card. Pond as iced over so I did not have to mess with reflection stuff.

Looking southwest when I got to the pond...

Looking to the northwest. I like how the color goes orange from the building to the blue in the sky...

Post sunset color...

A quick lens change to the 100mm to get the stuff on the horizon...

Color was not quite as vivid this evening as was this morning, but the nice day out I did put some more images on the memory card.

The white looking northwest...

The yellow looking north northwest...

^ Thanks.

The inversion broke down this afternoon and gave me something other than 100% stratus.

Looking southwest when I got out to the pond. Please forgive the truck on the left side of the image but it is interstate I-65 and is kind of a busy road and not so easy to get images without vehicles...

7V2A1016.thumb.JPG.cf9e69b37a3fb4e8b906268cf2bbf247.JPG

The breeze made it rather uncomfortable sitting right on the ater so I went back to the car to warm up. A ragged piece of the inversion  drifted into a good area of the sky and I stepped out of the car and took this...

The post sunset color as nothing special but better than nothing...

Was not sure if the sunrise would do anything with the retreating clouds but I went out and shivered for a bit just in case.

Some sneaky red with the 100mm...

This evening as all about the 24-70mm. Had some clouds scraping by to the south. Needed the extra reach.

With the pond still iced over, no need to mess with filters and reflections. So I could concentrate on just color and correct exposure...

Yesterday was a departing system. Today was an approaching system. They look completely different.

Started off with a decent sundog on the south side of the Sun...

Here I took a shot like the final one of yesterday so you can compare and contrast...

I was starting to get rather chilled and headed to the car when the Sun popped out for a final call. Took this next to the car...

The Sun is hitting the horizon as I drive home from work now. Today I ran into the house and just took some shots from the corner of the yard. The good news is that the clouds were northwest of me and that is the one direction that has the most open sky from my place.

The orange as I just got home...

This morning there was a very short period of color pre-sunrise.

With the 100mm...

7V2A1901.thumb.JPG.36e6a9c79eb0b7a62618da4574719465.JPG

This second image was taken less than a minute later. Changing the orientation put some brighter sky at the top of the image. That increased the contrast which really changed the color. Funny how the color balance can be so fooled...

These are from last night, 2-23. I was lazy and did not get them off of the card until tonight.

When I got out to the pond, some expansive white...

Close to local sunset. The contrast is a bit over the top but I still like the image...

Post sunset color. Plus I got to play with some reflections. The water was not perfect but I still had fun...

Tonight will show how different lens can change the color of an image.

Starting off with the 100mm and no cropping to the image...

7V2A2586.thumb.JPG.6ee3523ff33a717ddb5d920a5f7802bb.JPG

Two minutes later took this with the 16-35mm and a lot of cropping...

7V2A2620.thumb.JPG.84103627c870b8b57edaf00ba34be2da.JPG

What a difference in the color of the image. Yes the light changed a bit in the two minutes, but that much? Naw.

Had a nice evolution for the sunset this evening.

Started off at local sunset with the 16-35mm...

Switched over to the 24-70mm for the last two images. Needed at little extra reach and both are around 46mm...

Last image is the incidental light. Had a touch of red/maroon at the top...

Made for a great end of the work week for me.

Today with all the rain and storms to come, I figured there was zero chance of any sunset action. After eating dinner I went outside to get the trash ready for tomorrow when I noticed some pink off to the east. walked around the side of the house and then sprinted back into the house to grab the camera.

Some red sneaking above the IGA store across the street...

I kind of violated the stay-at-home order this evening to get the sunset.

Here I was at the local Pizza Hut waiting for my pizza to be done and took a pic in the parking lot with wires and trees of the white pre-sunset...

Tonight was a race between the left over moisture and the dry air wrapping in from the west. The dry air won but I still got a couple of clouds.

The white clouds were basically retreating to the east when I got out there...

Squeeze play with the upper low to the north and the developing system pressing in from the south this evening.

The low black clouds are from the upper low and the white and yellow clouds are from the system to the south...

Any idea how ambi-dexterous you have to be to eat pizza while taking sunset pictures?
