So today on the farmstead:

1) Pool level is below the return valves and the pump, either coincidentally or as a result, appears to have burned out overnight

2) Well is barely replenishing and will probably run dry in a week at the current rate of usage

3) Dam is completely gone and my jury-rigged plywood and cinder block coffer is still leaking more water than the inflow (now a trickle) can replace

@rclab's postage stamp sounds more and more appealing with each passing day...

Maybe add a tarp to your coffer?

Julian, 140 or so years ago when the postage stamp came into existence, the water source for the house was a well. At the back of the stamp was a small house over another well that was there for deposits only. At that time ‘Brook’ lyn still had them free flowing. If you walked a few hundred feet beyond the block of the new row houses you could probably still see deer and the antelope playing. Today with indoor plumbing and Tap water. I am left with a postage stamp that is a home to horny squirrels or as I lovingly call them bushy tailed tree rats, a family of raccoons who got into and trashed the third floor apartment. Incidentally I believe they’re seeking reparations because the diseased oak they used to den in, I had  taken down last year. Then there are the felines, both outside and in who are above it all and feel their entitled anyway. That leaves me which is probably good enough justification for all I’ve just described. Stay well (sorry for the pun) Julian, it could be worse. As always....

It's mostly seeping underneath I think. Nonetheless, the water is back up about 2" this morning after I just absolutely loaded it up with with clay and rocks, so at least the fish genocide seems to be averted for now. Getting some quotes this weekend on having it done the right way.

JC having a rough time there. Sorry dude.

It's all good. There are a lot of folks who have much bigger problems than leaky bass ponds and nettlesome swimming pools. If those are my big sorrows for 2020, I'll be in a pretty good spot.

Yeah me only earning a couple hundred bucks a month for 4 months now is painful, possibly even more so than the last 5 weeks of intense back pain with the first two weeks of that needing a cane to stand up and get started moving. I think the mental anguish that wakes you (me) up in the middle of the night worrying about that is a terrible thing and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

Damn this rain... I had pretty much dealt with the bugs in the garden but now it's overrun with grubs and cabbage worms :( It looks bad enough that I might lose most of my potatoes and I'm going to fight like hell not to lose the cauliflower and broccoli but it may be a lost cause too. This morning I sat on the ground pulling slugs for an hour and that's after I treated for them. Grrr...

How’d the quotes go?

The contractor thinks it's an easy job after a first look and could be done for under $5k without draining the pond. The pond construction specialist had to reschedule so still waiting on that opinion, though I suspect he'll tell a slightly more elaborate story.

Another bone-dry day here as other areas get drenched.

You should’ve stayed

I woulda. I like my half hour commute though. Dunno how some of these psychos drive from pine bush and areas up there to the city, even if it is only a couple times a week lol.

If i stay up there anywhere, its gonna be Lake Placid area anyway. Of course that depends on a lot more than just my dreams, most of which involve the politics that dont belong here lol

My oldest son works downtown, before COVID-19 hit he would spend close to two hours each way taking the train out of Campbell Hall and then the Path from Hoboken.  Even with the coin he makes that commute everyday is not for me.  That said, he's been working from a private beach house in SC since the end of March and who knows what the future is as far as remote working for those who can.

For all the storms and all the rain in the area I ended up with well under an inch for the week. It came at just the right intervals to keep the garden nicely watered though because it wasn't sunny enough for long enough to dry it out. That also means the bugs are going to town because it's been constantly damp. Hopefully the dry weekend puts them down and next week is similar. I don't need the heat like everyone else on the board. Weirdos :P

I was on the road all day but watching the radar has been interesting. That storm cluster west of the river looks to have put down a lot of water. It pretty much sat and dumped for hours. Who got it and was it as much as it looked on a phone screen while driving?

It was NW and W of me, I only picked up .10 yesterday.
