Just trying to figure out how the KBGM area gets 5", lol?? The RGEM has to be one of the worst with precip placement but we'll see as itll be here after the event for posterity

Over 20" in the Tug, NOT happening especially not this time as a 20"+ event dont come around all that often. Moisture gets absolutely stripped from the coastal that developing and the temps don't really go all that low, at least for this time of year so I, at least, dont see totals eclipsing the 12" mark in any one location, but I hope I'm wrong for sure!

5 hours ago, PaulyFromPlattsburgh said:

Yes, I am not upset. Models clearly overestimated the weak cold that was in place. Overestimates cold at both surface and upper levels . Models suck. Underestimated the warmth push. Useless. Anyways I’m off to California next week. Happy new year. Hope to catch some snow in the LA mountains

Ehhh. The models were pretty consistent with pushing the -4 700 line well into Canada. That’s the one I watch. Go with the warmest model and add 30 miles. I’ve been burned too many times. The lake plain just ushers all that warmth right from Cleveland to Rochester, the escarpment changes a bit near Syracuse- so they sometimes hold on.
Enjoy Cali! I’m off to Wyoming and Montana in a few weeks. And then to your neck of the woods, specifically to Iceface Mountain, in February.

I am so glad I got some riding in before Christmas.  200 miles.  You go when there is snow.

Keeping an eye on day 6. Not expecting too much but there are a few ways it can snow synoptically or LE or both.  I’ll worry about the LR later.  Track what’s coming next.

HWO issued for metro BUF tomorrow. Good call on this!

Hazardous Weather Outlook
National Weather Service Buffalo NY
959 PM EST Mon Dec 30 2019

NYZ010-011-010300-
Northern Erie-Genesee-
959 PM EST Mon Dec 30 2019

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of western New York.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

The probability of widespread hazardous weather is low.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

A band of snow will move through the area during Tuesday afternoon.
Although snow accumulation will only be a couple inches, there may be
a burst of heavy snow which could impact the evening commute.

They added a blurb in the AFD as well...

There may be a burst of heavy snow across the Niagara Frontier
Tuesday afternoon with the passage of the upper level trough. Even
though it will not be cold enough aloft for pure lake effect
snow, mesoscale guidance suggests a convergence band may
develop down Lake Erie with a potential for a brief period of
heavy snow. Snowfall amounts should be in the 1-3 inch range
since the band will be moving, but timing is such that it may
impact the early portions of the evening commute in the Buffalo
metro area. Adjusted the HWO to reflect this risk.
