Heat hype failing

Heat index is not but 100-102 is hard to come by and at prime time heat Saturday we are ranging 93-97.

The reason why-too humid. Really need 35% rh or lower  to get the triple digits and more. We’ve been around 50%. Winds are west today but not really drying things out and creating a spike. Barry left behind a lot of moisture and the high just was not strong enough to scour that out.

Agree it's generally on the low end of expectations, which really is not that shocking since it's so humid.

But HI right now is 110 at DCA, 106 at Dulles and 107 at BWI. All three have hit at least 97. Maybe underselling by a few degrees.

Not sure why this needed a new thread.  Already has been discussed in the obs thread.  Plus, with a 100, 98 and 97 on the climo stations it isn't like it was a complete bust.

I have to think that the global models had trouble with the pre-existing soil moisture (the euro was awful).  The NAM has been pretty good on temps.  This was always a borderline case, and the DPs in the mid-upper 70s do not help the cause.  Sometimes we can pull off a 2011 where is is super hot and super humid, but that requires an historic airmass which this is not.

Still, the Heat Index is no joke.
