If they only managed 100F it'll only be ranked 3rd for this date...2 101s in there for 7/21. lol

Looks like ORH managed to do a 1.8* spike/drop in the span of 10 minutes to get an 89.6.  Must have been Jetblue passing by.

15:25 87.8 69.8 74.7 55 12.7   W 28.70   29.77 Clear 10.00         OK
15:20 89.6 69.8 75.2 52 16.1   W 28.70   29.77 Clear 10.00         OK
15:15 87.8

lol.  You should try to find a site’s 1-min obs...they’ll be all over the place.

I used to look at them at Stowe on the Snowmaking system and in a span of like 10 minutes the temp would be all over.  Could be 67F then drop to 63F then back up to 66F, then 64F then back to 67F... and averaged it all just shows up as obs of 65F and 65F.

Yeah I could see it doing that on some. I don't believe that is the reason for the BOS drift though IMHO. That one was way more noticeable when it happened because it was running a lot different than other ASOS stations in uniform conditions like snow events...so we weren't even comparing it to Davis stations.

Yeah...I think we agree on that. The rapid shifts are a bigger problem than the amount of error itself.

Has anyone gotten a peek at the ASOS at Logan lately? Did they put black mulch around it?

Hard to argue with that MADIS shift at BOS.  It just woke up one week and decided to start verifying 2F too warm.

So that gets rounded to 99F?

It's either 98 or 99. We don't really know with the data supplied to us.

96F

They went due west for a bit and shot up. As soon as WSW/SW crept back in they went back down to the low 90s.

He sudden shifts/decays that happen over like a couple months are the ones that are probably real problems.

The ones that are very gradual are probably more due to additional meso stations coming online.

The sudden step-changes (no decay at all...just a total straight cliff) are probably due to a siting change like either moving the ASOS station on site or a huge project like paving a new runway like we saw at SEA. Or maybe some rocks around the ASOS site, lol.

Official highs are in

BDL 100
BOS 98
ORH 89

Why is that officiated when Boston could be 99 at 6:15 -  not saying they will of course... but that site out there notoriously picks up city heat late

and all the annoying crap about how warm SST's are off the east coast.

Yes...SST's warm up off the east coast through the summer. Nothing special.
