@frd speaking of ocean, I am up at southport, an island off the Maine coast, and the difference between high and low tide is astounding. Unlike down through our region where we see roughly a 2ft? difference, up here they average 9-10 ft with occasional 11 ft. When I get back in a few days I will post some pics.

Wow that is crazy, I like to see some images.

By the way, how is the food, I imagine very yummy.

You might like this recipe..... I love calamari.  My grandmother handed down years to me years ago a recipe that features  linguine pasta served with a marinara, from  garden tomatoes of course,  sauted with the calamari in olive oil and topped of with fresh basil. An excellent seafood sauce , believe ir not.

Plenty of great waterfalls in Vermont and NH. Most are pretty easy to get to with relatively short and not difficult hikes. I always end up climbing down(or up) off the trails to get a better vantage point. The weather was so perfect too. I am ready to go back!

Worst thing about a vacation is the trip home. On the last leg with a little over an hour to go. Maine is gorgeous though and the long drive was well worth it. Mohegan Sun poconos casino made out like bandits from our 2 day stop over on the way home. Now I have my fingers crossed that my garden hasn't had any issues from not being tended for 11 days.

Hey everyone! I stopped by the forum to see if there is any cool down in sight, but it’s not looking good. I usually don’t mind summers around here, but I was in the UK and Ireland for almost 3 weeks (it was between 55- 75 degrees), and came back to this nasty heat and humidity.  Can’t wait to start tracking snow, but this increasing heat can’t be good for our winter prospects...

Show of hands....who HASN'T been above 90.0 degrees so far this year? I can make that claim. Hottest day so far this year was yesterday's 88.5. They are calling for low 90's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If that happens it will be first time since the heat wave of July 24-28, 2016. Here are the days since 1/1/2016 I have been at 90.0 or higher.

Not bad. Please contact DCA and teach them proper instrument siting.

I hit 90 here today for the 3rd time in July. Had 1 time in June. Been a slightly cool summer.

My weather calendar hanging in my office tells me that two years ago today was the day that the Kent Island tornado formed over the Chesapeake and then moved inland.

I go to Kent Island pretty often, and I was there a day or 2 later. Damage just inland was pretty impressive, and from route 8 you could clearly see the path it took NE and across route 50 as it weakened.

Yeah, work took me to the shore a few weeks later that summer and it was absolutely apparent. Crazy evolution on that storm and it all happened so quickly as I recall. In the early morning hours after midnight too, if I am remembering it right.

I think that's correct. There was no mention of any severe potential the evening before IIRC. When I heard about it that morning I was like, What??

Am I missing something, or did a week of summer heat suddenly mean something...ANYTHING...in regards to winter?

And?

thankfully it missed getting damaged.  A limb was supporting the weight of most of the tree so it kept the other branches from smashing down and denting the car.  Maybe a couple scratches to the clear coat and thats it.

it was a nice maple tree too.

Stay cool everyone! Feels awful out there...ugh.

Sitting here recovering from having a pin placed in the top joint of my left pinky finger to set it...had that done earlier this morning.  Got injured last week at a softball game (on a bad throw, damn the 3rd baseman haha!).  Fractured the top part and dinged the joint out of place.  Fun times!  Pin comes out in about 4 weeks.

I only now am seeing your posts about your trip to SD/WY. My mother's family were among the initial white settlers in Hulett, near Devils Tower. I still own some of the property the family homesteaded in 1913. You chose a great area to escape to!
