supposed to be easterly flow today and its 89 here, 86 at ISP

Under this regime, it will continue to limit any major 95+ heat for EWR and LGA which has been the norm first week of July during the 2010’s.

saturday has a shot depending on convection

The one really deep SSW flow day with warm enough 850’s. But the soundings look extra juicy with 75+ dewpoints and PWATS over 2.00”. So clouds and convection may limit the max temperature potential.

the drying behind the front is delayed sunday and we get more high dewpoints and convection

These convection and rainfall events have always found a way to overperform since early 2018. That brief dry pattern a few years back was more the exception rather than the rule since 2003.

I bet the south shore of Long Island in Nassau County stays dry- we haven't had much rain at all since the first day of summer.

I doubt we see another 100 reading in the park anytime soon. We would need it to occur with very low humidity after a stretch of dry weather. That and EWR and LGA 103+

lol JFK may reach 100 before Central Park does.

No one cares about Central Park anymore anyway, it doesn't reflect NYC weather in any way.  I dont know why the media ever uses them anymore, they should just use LGA which is far more reflective of urban NYC.

I wish the NWS would send a bulletin to the media to tell them to stop using Central Park numbers.  All we get now is Lee Goldberg telling us that the wind and temp reports from Central Park are not representative of the area- but he keeps on quoting them and the highs and lows there.

Either that or move the Central Park equipment out into the Sheep Meadow (or set up duplicate equipment there and just use their numbers and only keep the original equipment for historical purposes) or some other open area lol.  No one really cares about weather continuity from the 1800s anymore anyway, we all know the climate was far different back then.

This happens to be one of the stuck weather patterns with the record high temperatures are remaining to our south. The continuing record -NAO and wet pattern has kept our record high temperature potential in check.

#Miami reached 98°F again today. Not only is that tied for the second hottest temperature on record, it's the second 98° day this year, which has never happened before. It's also the 10th 95°+ day this year, 4 more than the previous record by July 2

Veguitas, Cuba set the highest national temperature record for that country yesterday. 102 degrees.

Parts of Fla (including Miami!) have hit 100 degrees and have 110 heat indices!

1966 although I wasn't born then was one of my favorite years- went from hot and dry to a snowy prolonged winter!  JFK hit 104 and LGA hit 107 (hottest city temp on record and the record for the metro area until EWR hit 108 in July 2011), see we were hotter than NYC even back then :P

Let's not forget this date, 1863. Many a young man lost life and limb in the final clashes of Gettysburg.

I'm curious what the temperature/humidity levels were. Some accounts had "Pickett's Charge" of 15,000 Confederates march between 1/2-1 mile across an open field, toward the Union center; both sides wearing wool uniforms, carrying weapons and ammo, getting shelled with cannon snot, until they got close enough for rifles. Truly a surreal moment in our Nation's history and one that should never be forgotten.

I also want to know how strong that tornado was that kept the British from overrunning DC in 1812!

I was 19 and getting ready to start the third year of college. I lived in the Fort Ham section of Brooklyn off Ridge Blvd, two blocks down from Fort Hamilton High School. I remember the heat. We did not have air conditioning. The heat was like a pressing physical presence. I had to water my fathers vegetable patch. I didn’t mind that day, I hose watered me as much as I did them . I remember dialing WE 6 1212 and hearing the over 100 reading. We had a black rotary phone. It was over half a century ago. 17 was a good year for you Unc, probably one of many. For me, I just cling to the sage advice of the singing poets, S and G ,” preserve your memories, their all that left you”. As always .........

Next 8 days averaging 79degs., or 3.5degs. AN.

76.1* here at 6am.   79.0* by 10am with T going up and down with the sea fog going in and out here.   btw:  Surf Ave  now closed bet. W.12th. ---W.15th for NATHAN'S HOT DOG EATING CONTEST!

Trouble holding 80* here, even by 12:30pm.     Some Bensonhurst station has his thermometer in the sun or the A/C exhaust and is claiming 93* now!

Coastal water temps are rocketing with the light winds and sun the last few days. When the wind stays below 20 knots it really allows the top 3 feet of water warm up.

...yeah,noticed it yesterday(wed)..water is no longer 'numbing'..quite refreshing..maybe mid to upper 60's.

beautiful beach day..noticed a lot of clouds west of me..so decided to head east to ponquoque beach in hampton bays.

turned out clearing pushed west and turned out mostly sunny..what surprised me is the wind was pretty light

out of the south all day..pretty rare to have a day with no real sea breeze kicking in.

Great post.  Sadly, most have forgotten.  In fact, many do not know why they are barbecuing and watching fireworks today.

Happy Fourth everyone.

Local buoys are in the low 70s this morning. Satellite basically backing that up as well. It’s summer. Enjoy.

Well we are not celebrating Gettysburg today, so I’m not sure why most Americans should be remembering that today. Also pretty sure every American knows why they are bbqing today as well. Silly post.

What Americans need to remember today  is that what defines us and makes our country unique is freedom of expression and thought. We all seem to hate one another based on what the other thinks. This hate at times causes some to try to silence the voices of others, which is Unamerican and what we fought against in 1776.

this is what Americans should remember. Freedom of expression is quintessential to who we are. Not Gettysburg, one of the ugliest days of American history.
