EPS has fairly modest 500 mb ridging for early July by 2010’s standards. Strong -NAO blocking with lingering high pressure near New England will result in more of a SE flow at times. So EWR and LGA will continue to avoid the major 95+ heat at least into the weekend. Major heat has been the norm during the first week of July this decade.

Starting to get really dry here on the uws as we missed most of the weekend rain. Hopefully we can sneak I a t-storm or some decent rain this evening

Not with the Mets-Yankees game today, no baseball on the 4th and the All-Star break next week!

Yankees are the worst can’t believe they lost that game. They really are a bad team, and are not going anywhere this year even though everyone swears by them....and please no more rain until August.

If Newark can hold the min of 77 through midnight, then today may be among the cooler July maxes for such a warm min this decade.

If winds go East, as forecasted, coastal locations won’t exceed.  We’ll see when the wind shift occurs.

Let's not forget this date, 1863. Many a young man lost life and limb in the final clashes of Gettysburg.

I'm curious what the temperature/humidity levels were. Some accounts had "Pickett's Charge" of 15,000 Confederates march between 1/2-1 mile across an open field, toward the Union center; both sides wearing wool uniforms, carrying weapons and ammo, getting shelled with cannon snot, until they got close enough for rifles. Truly a surreal moment in our Nation's history and one that should never be forgotten.

I doubt we see another 100 reading in the park anytime soon. We would need it to occur with very low humidity after a stretch of dry weather. That and EWR and LGA 103+

I'm about halfway through The Killer Angels right now, not my first time reading it.  As I recall, there has been conflicting information over the years as to what the weather actually was there then.  When thinking of Pickett's Charge I can't help but think of the late Shelby Foote who said that while waiting in the shade of the tree before the charge a Confederate soldier saw rabbit run off into the woods and the soldier said "If I was an old hare I'd run too."

Excellent book in my opinion; though I know Shaara has his detractors. The movie adaptation was great, aside from the depiction of General Longstreet's beard. I thought Jeff Daniels was incredible as Joshua Chamberlain (an incredible man btw). Gods and Generals though didn't have the same feel.

supposed to be easterly flow today and its 89 here, 86 at ISP

Easterly flow in July is not nearly the death knell it is in April/May and even into June....but it will keep the big heat away.  Still have not hit 90 here for the summer....

Coastal water temps are rocketing with the light winds and sun the last few days. When the wind stays below 20 knots it really allows the top 3 feet of water warm up.
