May 28th-30th Severe Potential

Just to show how close myself and my chase partner were to the tornado (Presumably) path in Northwest, New Jersey earlier. We are the green dots on the bottom left. We tried to scope it out to get footage but the area was locked down.

Yes, tomorrow looks to be more of a straight line wind damage threat however all storm modes will be possible.

Some of the storms moving through Williamsport area need to be watched as they cross into NJ. SBCAPE is largely gone but the warm front is hung up over the area and that could cause a localized increase in low level shear. That seems to be where the other tornado warned storms peaked.

I’m sitting on the ocean at Jones beach and this is the most prolific lightning I have ever seen. It’s non stop

Yeah non stop flashing strobe effect in the south sky here

You could really see that hail core develop almost right over me in the Meiers Corners section of SI...that's also where the heaviest rain amounts fell.

I saw that on radar also....I haven't heard any reports.

I’m far from the ocean, halfway between the north shore and the south shore, and even I’m seeing occasional flashes out of the window.

Great light show with the tornado warned storm just to my north in Union Co. Had very brief heavy rain and wind as well.

I have some video on my phone but it doesn’t do it justice. At the peak the lightning was exceeding 10 flashes a second, something I have never seen before.  

Just had a brief downpour in wantagh.

Flash Flood Watch issued here from this afternoon into late tonight for 1-2" of rain w/locally higher amounts.

I'm 10 miles south of Stanhope; we had a little rain, no wind/hail. Almost like a subsidence zone in winter. 

Did see tremendous lightening southeast of our house, from the Mountainside/Summit storm.

Yeah much less south Si....Meiers Corners section had the hail and about an inch of rain....Travis also had hail but only about 0.25" of rain...Thunder was impressive in both areas.

Day 1 outlook from the SPC now has NYC within the enhanced outlook.

Today we have a backdoor cold front that will stall just S-W of the city during the afternoon, likely enhancing some hail/tornado threat in NJ as scattered supercells develop ahead of a bow echo. Forecast models are in surprisingly good agreement on this scenario, and it makes sense seeing the approaching shortwaves and clearing ahead of them.

I think wind will be the primary threat in the city since the inversion will be shallow and the line will be moving through during the convective max.  That boundary may also focus cells nearby and lead to flash flooding in areas that saw the heaviest rain yesterday evening.

Maybe it'll actually rain in Middlesex County today.

I drove into that cell last night, in Watchung.  Holy cow what punishing rain that was.
