Lightning show out there.  Some of the best and largest lightning I've seen in a while. One streak must have been at least 40 miles long horizontally.  Now I want to look up how long lightning bolts can measure.

Was in philly today and it was brutal.  Hit 100, I'm not sure if it went higher but I wouldn't be surprised.

Just noticed that Mt. Holly decided to go ahead and throw up a Heat Advisory further north from Delmarva and into the 5-county metro area -

Heat Advisory

URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM EDT this evening.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...Up to 100 due to high temperatures in the
lower 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

* TIMING...Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during
  outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency, call 9 1 1.

Already up to 86.2 (H.I. 95) - still thinking we fall just short of the required 90 to make this a 3 day "heatwave" at my location.. Wxsim paints just under 1" of rain over the next 30 hours or so....

We are not as far above normal rainfall as some locales but through yesterday the Township has received 4.62" of rain which is 1.66" above normal. YTD precip stands at 33.46" which is 7.03" above normal.

Wow. I am 12 miles east of York and I'd say I'm being generous if there's 25% cloud cover.

At 11am when I went outside it was mostly cloudy but now the sun has burned through the cloud base. The cloud cover is now closer to 50/50 with a lot more cumulus than earlier, which was mostly altostratus I believe. Also 88F now as opposed to 84F.  Also I'm technically in Manchester, near all the big warehouses.

SVR Watch coming

Mesoscale Discussion 1568
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1211 PM CDT Mon Jul 22 2019

Areas affected...southern New England southwest to northern Virginia

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely

   Valid 221711Z - 221845Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...80 percent

SUMMARY...Severe risk -- mainly in the form of locally damaging
winds -- will increase over the next new hours across southern New
England and the mid-Atlantic region. A severe thunderstorm watch
   will likely be required.

DISCUSSION...Despite modest lapse rates aloft, daytime heating of a
moist warm-sector (east of the advancing cold front crossing western
PA and south of a warm front lying from northern PA to southern New
England) is allowing gradual airmass destabilization to occur.

Latest visible imagery continues to reveal cu/cb development, within
the zone of clearing (per visible imagery) east of the higher
   terrain.

With continued heating/destabilization, and a gradual increase in
southwesterly mid-level flow across the region ahead of the
advancing upper trough, the environment will become increasingly
supportive of organized storms. Attendant risk for locally damaging
winds will accompany stronger multicell/transient supercell storms,
with this risk expected to become sufficient to warrant WW issuance
   within the next hour.

Was literally just thinking about that when your post came through.  If it doesn't issue at 2 pm, it will probably go out with the ~3 pm update.  It's 93 here with dp 72, heat index of 101 and you can feel the burning sun.  Also rapidly getting to a 50/50 cumulus sky coverage (and not all "fair weather"-looking cumulus clouds either).
