Wow, that was.... quite intense in Long Beach. Crazy thunder/lightning and probably some of the highest T-storm winds I observed here. Wind was roaring for a few minutes.

Thunder was a 8-9

The story of some of Long Island and thunderstorms

Happens all the time. The sound gets much better storms than most of the island it seems. Last summer was great though, had a ton of good storms. Already a bunch this season as well. So no complaints here so far

This is literally what happened to me, this is the outcome roughly 98% of the time.

Thunder and lightning with no rain (today)

Thunder and rain with no lightning

Lightning flashes and rain with no thunder

Never all three, and never ever anything approaching severe. The fact that these “storms” packed a strong breeze was enough to shock me.

Being from Queens (which barely does ok with t-storms itself), the lack of thunderstorms on Long Island is super noticeable, I hate it.

we had two severe thunderstorm warnings!  The storm at 6:30 was pretty good too, I was only disappointed that we didn't get to see a rainbow afterwards :(

I'm a bit suspicious of all the hot summer forecasts.  Though warm and somewhat dry would be a nice change.  We all know the super hot summer is coming in 2021- thats the 11 year pattern lol.

most of Long Island gets their storms in September and October. the spring season is overrated for us on the south shore, when the ocean warms up and the land starts to cool down is when we have our best outbreaks.
