So far all of the storms have been north of the city. Hopefully one of these babies can get further south. I'm doubting it.

Probably gonna be a race between the boundary pushing far enough south before the best dynamics move east.

Reminds me of being on the southern edge of a WSW.  Lol

Just some little lightning at this point would suffice. Not really wanting crazy hail but it does feel like a winter screw job.

If today busts for the southern regions, the enhanced risk area shifts south for tomorrow, but it might end up putting the city locales on the northern fringe instead of the southern.  Could still be a miss.

There will be a final chance region-wide on Thursday. The probabilities look lower in severe terms, however, at least for now.

Dumped the gauge at 9:45 PM, 3.10" and getting another round of heavy rain and lightning.....it's been constant since 5:30 with brief lulls.  Seems like the 5th or 6th round.

Very impressive for storms that were moving at a decent clip.

SPC forecasted that enhanced severe area well.

Just caught the southern tip of that severe storm.  No hail, impressive light show, looked like a wall cloud as it moved in (hard to make out at night for certain but thanks light pollution).

Some nice video, as well, but my phone is almost dead so I'll see what's worth revisiting tomorrow.

Looks like most areas are in the Enhanced Risk Zone for round 2. It will be interesting to see how things setup today, I'd think most areas that didn't see much yesterday should be more in line today, but I can also see where there may be an area of overlap that get hit pretty hard again, NWS makes mention of this in the discussion.

SPC Outlook:

...Upper Ohio Valley east to the mid Atlantic Coast...
In the wake of remnant/early-morning convection, airmass
recovery/destabilization is forecast ahead of a short-wave trough
(now centered near southern Lake Michigan) which will cross Lake
Erie and reach western Pennsylvania by early afternoon. As this
   feature -- and a weak/associated surface low -- advances,
redevelopment of scattered thunderstorms is forecast to occur,
possibly beginning as early as midday, across Pennsylvania, and
adjacent parts of West Virginia, Maryland, and northern Virginia.

With the airmass forecast to become moderately unstable, storms
should quickly intensify -- aided by the persistent belt of strong
westerly deep-layer flow across the area. While some tornado risk
is expected -- particularly near/ahead of the weak surface low and
associated warm front, where backed low-level flow will be present,
the greater risks appear to be locally damaging winds, and hail.
Some CAM guidance suggests that storms may grow upscale through the
afternoon, eventually merging into an at least loosely organized
cluster, as it sweeps across eastern portions of the risk area and
off the Atlantic coast during the evening. Should this occur, more
widespread wind risk would likely evolve, and thus have expanded the
ENH risk area slightly, extending it off the mid-Atlantic coast.

Other/more isolated cells are expected farther south across central
Virginia, with convective potential -- and severe risk -- decreasing
with southward extent, as indicated by the gradient in severe
probability lines across northern and central Virginia.

Mesoscale Discussion 0881
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   1106 AM CDT Wed May 29 2019

Areas affected...Portions of eastern OH...the northern WV
   Panhandle...much of PA...and NJ

   Concerning...Severe potential...Watch likely

   Valid 291606Z - 291730Z

   Probability of Watch Issuance...95 percent

SUMMARY...Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop
this afternoon. Large hail and damaging winds should be the main
threats, but isolated tornadoes will also be possible. Watch
issuance is likely by 17Z (1 PM EDT).

DISCUSSION...A shortwave trough over central OH and Lake Erie at 16Z
will move eastward today across PA and vicinity. Isolated
thunderstorms have recently initiated across central OH and
northwestern PA in association with this feature. A belt of strong
50-65 kt mid-level westerly winds will be present across eastern OH,
much of PA, and NJ today. Long, nearly straight hodographs through
mid levels and related 40-50 kt of effective bulk shear should favor
scattered splitting supercells early this afternoon. Large hail will
probably be the initial concern with this convection, with some
increase in the damaging wind threat with time as storms potentially
congeal into one or more bowing line segments as they move
east-southeastward across PA into NJ. A marine front located over
the NYC metro area and adjacent northern NJ will likely limit the
northeastern extent of the substantial severe threat this afternoon.
In addition to the large hail and damaging wind risk, isolated
tornadoes could also occur over mainly parts of central/eastern PA
into portions of NJ to the east of a weak surface low where
low-level southwesterly winds are forecast to be somewhat stronger.
Watch issuance will likely be needed across this region by 17Z (1 PM
   EDT).

Here's a couple images from last night that I captured on that final severe storm of the evening.  This was on the very southern edge of the cell.

First is the possible wall cloud.  This isn't the best it looked, but it's the only real view on tape I managed to grab of it (this is actually a still from a video).  It looked a bit more defined as it approached.  There was a clear inflow band, as well (extending off to the right of this image).  Unfortunately, I didn't end up attempting to get any more pictures or videos of it for some dumb reason.

Here is a quick GIF of some lightning I captured.  It got pretty intense.  Evidently there was hail with this storm further to the north, but the core of the storm missed me.

  • 3 weeks later...

I haven't posted in here in a few months or so. It's been a really rough 3 months for me. My wife passed away from cancer recently so I've been kind of a mess over that. I would like to get back to posting here regularly again. I need to get back to my hobbies and need distractions.

Anyway, it looks like we have an unsettled week coming up. Had some pretty good storms move through late last night. Hope we don't have a flooding repeat from a year ago. These wet summers are getting old.

Condolences to you and your family, very sorry for your loss.

Yeah, it would be nice to get through the summer without the damaging floods.

And hopefully we get some legit storms to track and verify next winter
