Day 25 and I am still going strong. This evening was smoke influenced. I think the smoke layer did not let the clouds radiate away once the sun set, as usual. It seemed to even trigger some more cloud formation.

When I got to the pond...

The clouds getting bigger...

And even bigger...

This last image shows the blotchiness of the smoke the best...

Day 26 and still the streak marches on. And it was one of those sunsets that I hope for each and every time I go out there.

What it looked like when I got out to the pond. Nothing special here,,,

7V2A4700.thumb.JPG.bfdea8f3288149a9a276a028a8b68078.JPG

After the sun actually set, the breeze started to die down so I was doing reflections shots just in case that is all I got. But if you look to the right side you can see a little red starting to creep in...

7V2A4883.thumb.JPG.f9d46ef0d9136a93538a4c7d5e7d2860.JPG

Well I swung the camera more over to the north and was elated when the red really started coming on strong...

7V2A4892.thumb.JPG.7ee5c9d81151f9a4c2fbee8a404999a9.JPG

Then it even moved over more to the west and mixed just right with the yellows and browns and blues and the whole mess... gorgeous....

7V2A4907.thumb.JPG.d5d49f3e80465e8cd6cfe86dd90d898b.JPG

Good night my darlin', wherever your are...

Day 27 and all is well. Sooner or later this is going to implode on me. And yet it is the conditions of a changing condition that brings me the best color and clouds. Here is to having triggers near by. And what an evening it was at the pond again.

What it looked like when the post sunset color machine was practicing its scales, getting ready for it's performance...

7V2A5074.thumb.JPG.5e37fadcf39d9a251caf1801f65ecb79.JPG

The first serious color occurred just over my left shoulder. So I just swung the camera to the south and opened the lens to 16mm and it still hardly fit...

7V2A5154.thumb.JPG.bfc95de961beb969c5ad76d2d410d041.JPG

Once the overhead went red I adjusted more to the southwest to get all the color at once...

7V2A5203.thumb.JPG.57bf337dce21edb932058c1251e557e4.JPG

Here is a close-up of the stuff closest to the horizon...

7V2A5178.thumb.JPG.383bac2565c861d6aa91a17dc3ad2ca6.JPG

And as the red was departing the area. Stick a fork in it, it is done...

7V2A5227.thumb.JPG.6ec4e37a0c3c18d5d9ecddb9dd61f921.JPG

Goodnight my darlin', wherever you are...

Day 28 and still hanging on by a thread. Was almost a shut out but not quite. Good thing I did decide to go out to the pond just in case. It may have been brief but it was worth the effort.

Probably the best color dynamics, and image of the night. Might as well as starting off with a bang...

7V2A5350.thumb.JPG.7584a0bb96b181fe1044b872926097af.JPG

A little bit later there was a decidedly violet color to the light from over the horizon...

7V2A5405.thumb.JPG.bff26504b57c802a91b7b3b9d5504c0c.JPG

And this last image is just for me. Completely incidental light and I exposed to make the sky/clouds right and had to let the billboard be way over-exposed. I do have my priorities...

Day 29. And what a busy night it was. Had some cells roll through this evening and I went out hoping it would break in time for sunset.

Started off with some crepuscular rays...

7V2A5780.thumb.JPG.bc5383b821e475015a132212b483b699.JPG

Then a rainbow broke out. It never did make a complete semi-circle, so I had to image it in installments. First the xouth side of the rainbow with a bruise blue background...

7V2A5798.thumb.JPG.d8fd8de39b0c3535f4743ede6a881ff0.JPG

Then the north side of the rainbow which was vivid yellow...

7V2A5881.thumb.JPG.c55981506012a195f7ce47e73d5c3ee5.JPG

Then on to some post sunset color...

7V2A6015.thumb.JPG.a7e4f1c03c8df8030b6c3f4949b06dcf.JPG

How about post sunset color with a lightning bolt on the right side of this image...

7V2A6280.thumb.JPG.b6af88ec2f38d5a4419e438cf5013ca5.JPG

And finished the evening off with another lightning bolt, this time in the lower left...

Day 30. A solid month at the pond. And what a celebration I had. I was running everywhere, all night long. Complex to the northwest of me. Complex to the southwest of me. There I was, stuck in the middle with you.

Started off looking south when I got to the pond...

7V2A6553.thumb.JPG.aab9f595cb99c01c585fe09496513eb1.JPG

A nice sundog on the north side of the Sun...

7V2A6561.thumb.JPG.3ec568c6fdda71323026cf44f3cc77bd.JPG

Once the post sunset started the edge of the southwest complex started to go orange...

7V2A6869.thumb.JPG.b30b6f6c3e6be49f910c5bbbaa2b1351.JPG

I glanced over my left shoulder and saw something I do not see very often. Maybe once a year if I am lucky. An anti-crepuscular ray. In other words, a cloud shadow so strong that it went all the way to the vanishing point looking to the southeast...

7V2A6904.thumb.JPG.0ea7e65be52af8605c7dd8e285fe00bf.JPG

Then I ran to the fisherman's point, to get a better angle and some more reflection on the complex to the southwest...

7V2A6964.thumb.JPG.371956f62aa35bb06176dfcee4e2ec59.JPG

Then it was a move back to my normal spot for the post sunset color to the west and you can still see the cloud shadow or crepuscular ray that gave me the anti one...

7V2A7019.thumb.JPG.860a656fd5c4898cd3b48e5224591c4d.JPG

Ended the evening with a wild color. Feathering the GND sometimes fools the color balance of the camera. On rare occasions the result is visually pleasing...

Day 31 of The Streak. And still it continues. And what I night it was. The afternoon storms rolled through at just the right time and left the perfect environment.

Starting off vertical, pre-sunset...

7V2A7341.thumb.JPG.a4f093a16c7a301f20d00722b8e6ee60.JPG

And onto horizontal pre-sunset...

7V2A7423.thumb.JPG.ace1a4766a75d76b65677a060cc4aed0.JPG

Just going to make a rather long time jump break and go straight into the max color...

7V2A7719.thumb.JPG.8809257967822fc4f9a7d7e230db555b.JPG

And a little bit more of a detailed view of the right side of the previous image...

7V2A7784.thumb.JPG.16b521d046c0667b55aa6f9c35ee51a3.JPG

Going to end the night just as I started, vertical. The extreme post sunset light had a strong violet cast to it again. Supposidly from the aerosols  from the two volcanos on the other side of the Pacific. It is very noticeable...

Day 32 of the Energizer Bunny Streak that will not give up. Was a close thing though. Had a pretty thick cloud shield to the west and north. Was not sure if anything might happen. BUt as usual I was out there just in case.

When I got out to the pond. I had to orient to the southwest to get anything...

7V2A7989.thumb.JPG.63a5eed5ee64ec0f9ada24c15904deea.JPG

Tried going vertical when it started getting tinged with orange...

7V2A8020.thumb.JPG.47b556915919f72def01c31cded74f93.JPG

Fortunately, right around local sunset, there was a slight tear in the cloud bank. It was crepuscular ray nirvana for a very short period of time. Here are the rays in color...

7V2A8084.thumb.JPG.e88603cc5e6dd16409eaa73a94c509c1.JPG

And here are the crepuscular rays in black and white only a minute later...

Day 33. I only made it out to the pond after sunset today. Real soon I might have to flip the evening meal with the pictures. Day light is really getting shorter now. So tonight was all post sunset.

I am not sure which I like best, isolating the sky...

7V2A8275.thumb.JPG.4b48cdb91bc1b950c157fa39c1e1b377.JPG

Or trying to get at least a little bit of a reflection...

7V2A8280.thumb.JPG.dcced1932f757027b09b84964623750f.JPG

Here the cirrus behind the lower clouds turned hot red...

7V2A8366.thumb.JPG.caeae86190a1cbf570e10dfcd8c03e9b.JPG

Figured I show you the *new* billboard. Same company but a little bit different of a message...

Day 35 and might this be the last evening for this streak? Upstream on the visual satellite is not looking very promising. So I had as much fun as I could this evening, just in case.

I got there just before sunset this evening...

7V2A8824.thumb.JPG.d7c528e991d3023d0fab6b21fe356f2d.JPG

Some very faint cloud shadows going on in the right side of this image just after sunset...

7V2A8966.thumb.JPG.88204328f84bb410eacdacef5caaa4ef.JPG

Started off watching the red approach from the south with the 24mm-70mm...

7V2A9112.thumb.JPG.2d0ce23ccc461c9dda7f6f9ecea6a122.JPG

Ended the red with the 16mm-35mm looking to the southwest...

7V2A9126.thumb.JPG.396df8f26d61741b4a6dc52e4e854fc8.JPG

Not a bad way to go, if this happened to be the last for a day or two or three.

Day 36 and I sneaked another evening in. Not much in the way of color but there were plenty of clouds to image.

When I got to the pond looking southeast...

7V2A9274.thumb.JPG.dded7167f05a28475f1fa08d0cb3f371.JPG

Looking west, vertically...

7V2A9460.thumb.JPG.5d097458329a7e1268edcf6a21c65863.JPG

And now horizontally...

7V2A9476.thumb.JPG.17f32f8e3e5e0aad7cd68d6a811d2266.JPG

The post sunset color was muted and no reds. A little bit of light orange was the best it could do...

7V2A9701.thumb.JPG.06ab73bfc3f9edfd063c5efcb92691c4.JPG

The best reflection image happened very late and the colors were going wonky so I just did a B&W...

Well the streak is over. Yesterday was 100% stratus. And there were no lucky breaks. I know because I was out there just in case. And all the images were solid grey and nothing to look at so they all went into the recycle bin. At least this evening it was a lot nicer looking out at the pond.

Starting off with some crepuscular rays...

7V2A0240.thumb.JPG.04227eb6ccbfe4053aefd442cc556db9.JPG

And some more rays...

7V2A0281.thumb.JPG.9d2131943008275251b870d56486d712.JPG

Best image of the evening in my mind was this view to the east just before sunset...

7V2A0400.thumb.JPG.8639bdcaa5c4f41a58852b39e18f63d9.JPG

Last image of the evening had a little bit of yellow. A little bit of orange. A little bit of red. A little bit of violet. In other words, it was a hot mess...

When I got off of work at 6 p.m. I thought, darn too bad it is not sunset right now. It would have been ae-inspiring. But two and a half hours later it did a decent enough job of it.

What it looked like when I got to the pond. Not much to it...

Here is when the red was just starting to fade. That electric blue ribbon on the left side almost made my teeth hurt it was so tasty...

The rains of the morning departed and left an almost clear sly overhead this evening. But it was a close thing.

When I got out to the pond. A look to the south of some build-up and the anvil from that cell south of Indianapolis...

7V2A1845.thumb.JPG.3d6ad6cd616b3d61e91481b0e68802f3.JPG

Post sunset you could see that the lower atmosphere was very blotchy. I do not see smoke on the visual satellite so I wonder if it was the high low level moisture from the morning rains that was real close, if not starting to make some fog...

7V2A1905.thumb.JPG.29e8a14c75b525ec6680af1035b04c5c.JPG

There was just a smattering of red way off in the northwest distance. And more of the low level blotchiness...

7V2A2080.thumb.JPG.e527f33b4fe6f1888dc86843bbad67d9.JPG

Once again some short lived violet color...

7V2A2205.thumb.JPG.ff05fd43fd3b6f9f0f89c52261051804.JPG

And ending the evening with the Moon making an appearance in the western sky...

All of the clouds disappeared as the sun sank to the horizon. I had to find other things to look at.

Here the Sun was doing a balancing act on top of a power pole. Also in the reflection in the water, you can see the straight line of the power pole at least in full resolution RAW image. Hopefully you can see it in the squished down version...

Beginning of the post sunset color...

End of the post sunset color. I hope you can see the faint and broad cloud shadows that look like they came from the tops in south central Iowa well over the horizon...

This evening was quite interesting out at the pond.

Some cloud shadows when I got out to the pond...

7V2A2979.thumb.JPG.eda26bedfd0e45cbf977661aa72ae1d8.JPG

I like this one because I think I actually followed the rule of thirds for once...

7V2A3071.thumb.JPG.c4a8a017524fec3aac22d6ba5695646c.JPG

I like all the different colors in this image. The Moon also takes it a step farther...

7V2A3175.thumb.JPG.9513811069857aaa7c3c8e2d90e34633.JPG

I might have gone overboard with the contrast in this one...

7V2A3247.thumb.JPG.f5f79049246774849d457da9c755dbd1.JPG

Walking back to the car at the end I looked to the south-southwest and I could not pass up a shot that went from the horizon to past overhead at 16mm. The Moon looks like more of a sensor error but I think it is cool when you know what it is...

Tonight was about the post sunset color.

Starting out with the sky behind going to yellow...

7V2A3620.thumb.JPG.04760794ee7a57f01e1c327c4ac02b67.JPG

With the red tinging in on the blue sky, it started the almost violet color up...

7V2A3711.thumb.JPG.9bf79c4b66bf7a61857fffb3880081b1.JPG

Switch to vertical to get all the violet color and the way I was feathering the GND kind of fooled the white balance of the camera again. Still made the contrast of clouds correct but the color might be a bit off. I still like the result...

7V2A3771.thumb.JPG.d2225a60b5ac9db22acdc6ce9f7a43cc.JPG

And as the color was leaving the sky overhead, of course the horizon goes super saturated...

Ooops. I am a bit late getting the images downloaded, sorted and crammed down so these are from the sunset from 9-7. If you look at these at a later date. Kind of interesting to watch the clouds decrease as the sun sets.

When I got to the pond, looking south east...

7V2A4270.thumb.JPG.6a90276f9d6692082891a3422205a070.JPG

Pre-sunset...

Post sunset...

7V2A4649.thumb.JPG.61b39a6d5eae66753eb989327045cda1.JPG

And the late red flash. Not  much red and very diffuse and short-lived. Looking at the satellite now I am amazed it was as good as it was...

Was not sure hat this sunset was going to look like. Was not sure if the system west of me would give me anything.

When I got to the pond...

Close to sunset...

There was a small and brief red flash. It as only due south of me and did not last long. I combo'd it with the western horizon color here...

I could nit-pick and say I wish the clouds would have been 50 miles farther east this evening. But it as good to have some color to play with so I am OK with how things turned out.

Some orange...

7V2A6116.thumb.JPG.24a770495e5ba5e3b52f7e44f292dc89.JPG

Some red...

7V2A6196.thumb.JPG.e15ff4d9406a6686c279529c05d354db.JPG

And this as shot just before the main billboard lit off. I purposely shot it dark, trying to keep the deep reds and oranges from blowing out the sensor. It made for a rather dark image but I got the contrast of the colors correct across the image...

And now the right side of the image alone...

Now back to the color, the orange...

And to the red...

I knew that all the good stuff was going to be way west on the horizon. And it was.

When I got out to the pond...

Here I had the wrong lens on. I as ready in case I got some violet but none ever showed up. Then had a red flash wayyyyy over on the south west horizon. Oh well, it is tiny but it is there to see, if you squint...

By the time I switched to some more focal length, it had rotated more to the west...

Was a picture perfect evening out at the pond. Ha-Ha!

When I got out there, there was a not-quite sundog. Not quite arc segment. But a some kind of mash-up of the two on the north side of the Sun...

Some red creeping in from the north side...

The last dregs of red, those two spikes above the yellow on the horizon that is blotting almost everything else out...

Another good night behind the viewfinder.

When I got to the pond. Look at how far south of the billboard the Sun is now!...

I kind of hoped that when the Sun got underneath the stuff in Missouri, that it might do a little something extra. I like the red spikes above the oranges on the horizon...

A typical kind of late summer evening at the pond.

When I got there, there were plenty of clouds about. Too bad most of the succumbed once the Sun set and daytime heating as lost...

Very little was left, just this lonely cloud to the south...

Did manage some broad and diffuse crepuscular rays extremely late into the sunset...

And now for something completely different, a sunrise. I was not able to go to my usual sunrise place, the fairgrounds, as they are having a treasure hunt today and had all access restricted so I just went to the pond as usual. So you will have to look at the firehouse and tractor repair buildings.

Makes me kind of dizzy with everything backwards but starting off with the reds and some nice cloud shadows...

Then onto the orange...

Ending with the start of the white with the Sun breaking out. Looking to the south...

These are from the evening of 9-21. I am late getting them downloaded and processed. Not a great sunset. It made me work for the images.

Looking to the east hen I got there. You can see that the cloud shield is in the same place basically as the sunrise, just broken up a little bit more...

Colors were not amazing so I really had to work hard to make the image look decent close to sunset...

This is the best I could do with the post sunset colors and design. It is real close to actual colors and density. The blue might be just a touch over-cooked but if I take any more out the colors go wonky. So here is the best I could do, warts and all...
