Is this one of those times where elevation will help to get you above freezing or is the cold layer thick enough that 1000 feet will still be in the cold surface flow?

Saw this all the time living in the CTRV - all the trees bent with ice at home and then drive up the hill into Tolland and it was well above freezing.

Imo this is opposite of that. We are advecting lower dews and cold air in and CAA happens much better at elevation. I’ve seen some posts about north drain , but this isn’t in situ CAD. This has a lot of similarities to the big 2008 icestorm .

Thanks - this might get interesting yet...I've got the whole house generator and 1200 gallons of propane.  Large scale power issues will really stink for people.  Already got the call from Eversource warning of potential outages.

Yeah we got that call about an hour ago too. We’ll just have to see how things play out. Good luck out that way

Best of luck to you as well - hopefully not a repeat of October 2011.  The winds here have slowly turned to the north after being out of the ESE for most of the afternoon.  27/18 currently.
