I remember Tex making a comment about a first snowflake reaching the ground In sync with the Saint Patrick’s Day parade. I cannot remember any more of the specifics of that more than half century ago event. I was wondering if you can, Unc. As always ....

it snowed a little on 3/17 in 1959, 1960, 1965, 1967...could have been any of those years...1967 was a cold snowstorm for this time of the year...

That might be the only time we've had snow on Christmas Eve and St Patrick's Day

maybe...it hasn't snowed on Christmas eve in a long time...last time it snowed on the 17th was in 2004...2007 ice storm ends early on the 17th...

Down to 13° at Central Park as the snow was ending.   At our NNJ home we had a windblown 6" in 5 hours as the temp slid from 13 to 8, remarkable for so late in the season.  (And minima the next 2 days were zero and -3; 10 and 8 a Central Park.)  IIRC, the forecast for that clipper was 1-3 or 1-2, but it really grew up.

it was a great ending to a great winter...a few days after the cold wave almost 10" of snow fell...

And the "winter" didn't end until the 3" on 4/27 at our home.  Then co-workers (actually my boss and his brothers) got smacked with sleet and snow while fishing in N. PA the 1st weekend of May.

Hey guys,

I've been running WRFv4.2.2 simulations for funzies lately. I configured WRFv4.2.2 w/1 parent (12km) and one nested (4km) domain. My nested domain (4km) encompasses all of New York City. If you'd like to view graphics of some notorious weather events, click the links below :D... Keep in mind, my focal point is New England so some of these events weren't that interesting for the New York City area.

Personally, Hurricane Belle, 1978 forecast change to rain that didn't happen no school day, and Blizzard of 1978 5 days no school day, storm drains to Great South Bay and storm surge creating greenish/salt water tinged snow near drains.   AmWx, joy of Sabbath observant posters, who logged off at dusk thinking it was storm cancel, logging back on the next evening to mode shifts/blizzard warnings Boxing Day.  My family and I vacationed with our Jewish neighbors in Curacao, they weren't observant, but I've seen a red tagger here and a Twitter 'Bobbi Storm' who are Sabbath observant and wondering if there is a connection.  (I think I tagged Anthony on FB once, I am claiming Italian-American ancestry, my brother's Ancestry search,  the 'Grossman' ancestor from Padua, not Austro-Hungarian as we'd always thought.  1/8th English, Marshfield, 3 Mayflower ancestors.  Marshfield is the next town to Plymouth, possible.  Mostly Irish ancestry, but not like NYC, or especially Mom's native South Boston, where stuff like that mattered).

Hurricane Belle was my first exposure to cable TV.  Dad's co-worker, Eddie Harkin, lived in North Massapequa and Nassau Shores had an evacuation order.  Uprooted weeping willow trees, if not removed, don't die.

Dad would not let me go outside the Harkin's house to experience a hurricane.  Power went out moments before what would have been my first R rated movie...

Latest 0 on record on Long Island was during that period.

Watching the first NFL game of the year tonight, it occurred to me that the most recent NFL game was the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb 7th.  That was the day/evening of that perfectly timed, pretty, moderate snowfall that left beautiful skies and cold crisp air in its wake at dusk.  Made for a perfect night of football watching.
