December 8-10 Winter Storm Obs

Recommended Posts

7" in western wake county at the Chatham county line.  Light precip now, hear some pingers.  Just got back from a drive and Town of Cary has plowed all the non-neighborhood roads around here.  McDonalds was open.  Almost got backed into by a snowplow in the Harris Teeter parking lot.

Soundings from the HRRR for my slice of Forsyth county remain all snow through about 19Z....we'll see. It's going to be really close.

This storm keeps overperforming. I'm now near 11" and still getting some the heaviest snow for this event (which is saying something).

Anybody else in Wake still getting snow?

You are the place to be!  We have a mix that is mostly sleet right now.   I have a feeling the snow is gone for good.   I just hope the rain isn’t bad enough to wash this away.

All our rulers have apparently been turned into ninja swords or reinforcing pieces to box forts lol.

Guesstimate of 8 inches in Durham NC by the Southpoint Mall.  Freezing rain now - pinging off the house non stop.  Few loud sounding gusts of wind rolling in.

10.5" here in Colfax.  That's off the deck and prone to some blowing stuff.  Going by other reports, it sounds about right.  27.3 degrees.

Having looked more carefully at a map (just moved recently), I guess I'm closer to SE Durham than NE Durham as I posted before, but about five miles north of Southpoint.

It's still snowing here. I'd guess we're at 7-8"? I keep expecting it to change over, but still flakes for the moment.

30.9F according to my hobby-grade weather station.

My husband just remeasured because he said it looked like more than it was at 7:00 a.m. and he was right.  We have about 9” in Northwestern Wake County.  It’s sleeting now though so I think we’re done.  No complaints though!

I have 5 inches of snow/sleet here in ne Randolph county. I am right on the line inbetween the good stuff toward Greensboro and the big 0  25 miles below me.  Looked better last night the NWS had me in the 8-10 band but could be worse for sure.  I feel bad for the upstate SC, Se Charlotte and Moore county folks were also supposed to get a lot more and got warmed nosed worse than me.

Praying the zr stays away.  Heavy pingers now.

Well the bad news is I missed out on most of the heavy snow and fun in my location.  I probably got around three inches before it all turned to sleet around 5:00 AM.  It is raining and the wind is picking up now.  The temperature is around 33 degrees.

The good news is it looks like I'm going to miss out on the heavy ice accrual.  The Duke Energy map has quite a few power outages on a line from Raleigh north.  South of that line things are pretty much status quo.  I feel for those who have lost power, especially in the Charlotte area and those to the north of me.

I have a foot!  Looks like this may be it since the sleet/rain line is getting close. I hope the snow can hang around another hour or two

Bummer. I have sleet/snow. The first time I've had sleet for the event.

Same here Falls.  I must be due east of you.   9” or so here in southern Franklin County just outside of Youngsville.

Just woke up here in Lesslie in southeastern York County. Been cold rain most of the night. Some sleet has apparently mixed in but nothing has accumulated. The Airport in the north of the county is apparently still at freezing but I think we're above here.

I guess I got my wish. If it couldn't be snow it better have been all cold rain.
