This final band has a nice snow globe effect to it.  Flakes are a lot drier than the dense/wet/granulated type flakes we saw for much of the event.  Visibility and snowfall rates not nearly as intense as the stuff from earlier, but it still has a nice look to it.  Definitely over a foot now, will take final measurements in the next half hour or so when it ends.

The infamous extreme northwest edge cutoff is almost here.  Gonna be sad to see this system go!  Trying to cherish every last flake of this beast lol.

I should be asleep, but am doing the same. Will see a pop up of nice returns on radar, so the I get out of bed to go check conditions.

As the system starts to pull away, will be interesting to see if any of the late bands get some lake enhancement

I think it's all snow now and temp has bumped down to 35.

As far as what happened in Chicago near the lake, you knew going in that amounts were going to suffer there... it was just a question to what extent.  Really when you think about it, it shouldn't be that surprising. Consider that 925 mb temps for much of this evening have been progged to be just a little below 0C.  You can get away with that farther inland but it's really hard to cool the low levels sufficiently near the lake with that kind of airmass at this time of year, especially when the onshore flow is so strong.  The good news is that CAA is kicking in so we'll see if a mini rally can take place.

Final total here is 12.8".  Think there's a chance there may have been a bit more, as there's gotta be some compaction taking place with that much snow.  I'd say about 8-9" of that fell in the 4hr period between 5 and 9pm.  I'll post the whole storm time lapse sometime tomorrow.  I'm hoping I caught a few of the lightning flashes this eve.

Heading to bed in the midst of the closest thing to a blizzard I’ve experienced since GHD 2011, albeit with a lower intensity of snow. Accumulations don’t look like they’ll make the 8-12” cut but it’s still been a heck of an early season system, a win by any means.

Lost power for a very short time during the midnight hour, and have lost it a second time running on 30min now.

Was up to 5.1” as of midnight, but have added a decent amount since with heavier snows returning. Still looks like a run on 12” is in the cards.

After decent winds during the evening and then a lull, winds have increased again since midnight. Numerous tree branches/limbs are down across the area, ranging in size. Came across one on a car earlier, and a neighbor has a large one down on their house and patio.

ORD gusted to 51MPH about 30min ago and had 3.3” of snow as of midnight.

Happy for you, you deserve it! And very jealous too. Is this your biggest snowstorm since 2011? I know you went quite a few years without any meaningful snowstorms now isn't this your 2nd one in 2018?

17.0" in Oskaloosa, IA is the highest total I can find right now. Impressive.

As for MBY, just an awful storm...one I hope not to repeat anytime soon. A bunch of miserable cold rain...and then after it flipped, we've been stuck in subsidence hell. Got some light snow dancing around in the wind now, but it's nothing more than a mood setter. Regardless, it's been a relatively wintry November...so all is not lost. :D
