The present geopotential medium is still supporting summer. But the circumstance of a high pressure parked N of Maine ....bullying a wedged +PP influence from the N is making it unusually cold relative to those heights - so it's faking autumn's arrival. Kind of fascinating actually.. and that's been going on now for two weeks. One high moves off...another formulates over Manitoba and tumbles E and takes it's place. All the while, we could be warmer at lower heights if trough happened to situate west.
