Looking past the general public’s (and even the wx community’s) “shock” about a tornado warning/touchdown in NYC, you’ll see the city has had quite a few tornado touchdowns in recent years, probably more than most major cities outside of the Plains/Midwest.

08/08/07 - EF2 - Brooklyn

07/25/10 - EF1 - The Bronx

09/16/10 - EF0 - Brooklyn

09/16/10 - EF1 - Queens

08/28/11 - EF0 - Queens (Hurricane Irene)

09/08/12 - EF0 - Queens

09/08/12 - EF1 - Brooklyn

08/02/18 - EF? - Queens

I’d add the 09/16/10 Macroburst as an honorable mention, that thing was basically a miles-wide borderline EF2/EF3 wedge tornado.

That **** was a beast that 9/16/10 storm

I'd be over the top thrilled with a dry 3 weeks again. It's just so soggy out there now I can't even go out in my backyard without sinking in to the top of my shoes.

We've caught up here.   Lush vegetation and weeds everywhere.   3 inches of rain in the last 2 days alone...

Notice how the top 5 list contains the last three years.  1983 was an interesting anomaly as well.

Went by the tornado touchdown area this morning. I have no doubt it was an EF0 touchdown. Clear evidence of twisting and debris and trees scattered in different directions. Branches have clear twisting evidence. Malba Park section of Whitestone, Queens.

I would be shocked if the NWS doesn't confirm a weak EF0 touchdown.

It’s confirmed
