21 days with no rain but we do have a 60% chance today. Got my fingers crossed. Currently 86/78.

God knows i'm not complaining but it's been a fairly wet summer here.  In fact it seems like it has rained most days. Incredibly,  twice in 3 days in the past week i have gotten rain when there was hardly a pixel's worth of returns on radar for a hundred miles.  Picked up a half inch several days ago where if you went a mile in any direction hardly a drop fell.

Sadly, despite all the rain, the heat has been unbearable. I don't know if it's because i'm getting older or it's getting worse but damn every year it's more and more intolerable. Yesterday was just disgusting.

MESOSCALE PRECIPITATION DISCUSSION 0510

NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
229 PM EDT SUN JUL 22 2018

AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHEAST VA...NORTHEAST NC...

CONCERNING...HEAVY RAINFALL...FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE

VALID 221830Z - 230000Z

SUMMARY...INCREASING CONVECTION WITH TRAINING/REDEVELOPMENT LIKELY
AND RAIN RATES UP TO 2"/HR POSE POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING.

DISCUSSION...STRONG HEATING BOUNDARY EXISTS ACROSS NORTHEASTERN NC
WITH TEMPS RISING INTO THE LOW 90S ALONG THE COAST BUT LIMITED TO
UPPER 70S ACROSS NORTH CENTRAL NC WHERE CLOUD COVER FROM THE
EXITING MCV REDUCED INSOLATION. THIS BOUNDARY WAS WELL DEFINED IN
THE EARLY MORNING CU FIELD AND RECENT SFC INFLOW HAS TIGHTENED THE
BOUNDARY AND CONVERGENCE TO SPARK CONVECTIVE INITIATION. THE
AMPLE MOISTURE IN THE MID TO UPPER 70S IN NE NC AND THE HEATING
ALONG WITH MODERATE 6C/KM LAPSE RATES HAS SUPPORTED SBCAPES INTO
THE 3000 J/KG RANGE. GIVEN DEEP MOISTURE AOA 1.75" PER
SOUNDINGS/BLENDED TPW/GPS NETWORK...CELLS WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY
TO PRODUCE UP TO 2"/HR.
THE 12Z SOUNDING IN MHX DOES SUGGEST SOME MODERATE DRY AIR TO HELP
WITH COLD POOL GENERATION AND WITH INFLOW FROM THE COAST WOULD
NORMALLY SUGGEST EASTWARD PROPAGATION. HOWEVER...WITH THE PASSAGE
OF THE MCV AND UPSTREAM HEIGHT FALLS STILL ROUNDING THE BASE...THE
MID-LEVEL TROF WILL FLATTEN (TIGHTENING THE GRADIENT TO THE WEST)
STRENGTHENING THE UPPER LEVEL JET BUT ALSO RETROGRADING THE
MID-LEVEL FORCING A BIT WESTWARD. AS SUCH THERE IS FAIRLY TIGHT
HI-RES CAM AND RAPID REFRESH GUIDANCE SUGGESTING FAIRLY STATIC SSW
TO NNE SFC MST CONVERGENCE BAND/UPDRAFT REDEVELOPMENT BAND FROM
JOHNSTON/WAYNE COUNTIES IN NC TOWARD SURRY COUNTY VA. DEEP MEAN
CELL MOTIONS WILL SUGGEST SOME WESTWARD BACK-SHEARING OF THE
UPDRAFTS BUT OVERALL NORTHWARD MOVEMENT SUPPORTING TRAINING OF THE
MEAN CORES. SUGGESTING 2-4" TOTALS POTENTIALLY GREATER FURTHER
NORTH INTO SE VA WHERE INFLECTION/CONVERGENCE MIGHT BE STRONGER.
AS SUCH FLASH FLOODING IS CONSIDERED POSSIBLE THROUGH 00Z.

Our only chance at rain today is with that storm that had the tornado warning earlier. Everything else is fizzling out as it approaches. Can’t complain though. We’ve had measurable rainfall last 9 days.

I lied I’m gonna complain. We were under a severe thunderstorm watch for 12 hours, unstable as ever, and PWI near 2 inches and other good stuff, and we couldn’t even get a rain shower.

Well my bad luck with getting rain is over. Really bad storm happing now. Winds, heavy rain, hail, and lightning. Over 1" and counting.

Had a big one last night.  Lots of strong wind and heavy rain.  Lost power for about 2 hours.  Saw some nice green flashes.  Spent about an hour cleaning up large limbs and half a tree from the yard.

Yeah that always sucks....in fact it's far worse than having no chance of rain at all. Hope it picks up for you.

Since that post, it's rained several times for  another 2.5 inches or so.

Luckily I only lost power for a few seconds. Looking forward to more storms this week.

One of the local PWS near me in Kitty Hawk has measured 3.5". I believe it.

Been reading today that the standing water has things all jammed up out there... then a wreck at 158/Landing Drive has both roads at a standstill. Glad I don't live there any more.

Got my first rain for the entire month.  0.29" yesterday and 0.11" so far today. So 0.41" for almost the entire month. It has really been quite amazing how rain would go by on all sides. A couple of times I could actually smell the rain but nothing would fall. Several times it would look like I couldn't miss on radar and the storm would either collapse or split in two and slide by on both sides. I mowed around the first of July and not since.
