Big radiational cooling weekend over the Northeast. Models have near record high pressure in NYC for July. 1030 mb is the July record set on 7-1-52.

This mornings low was 76 which is the warmest minimum I’ve recorded IMBY, records going back to 2005. Of course that will be wiped out this evening for the day but that won’t change how stuffy last night was around here. It’s rare for me to have a low in the 70’s, nearly always squeak into the 60’s here.

Yesterday’s low goes in the books as 62 just before midnight, this mornings low was 51.

The bouy south of Fire Island Inlet just reached 80.2 degrees. So we are now in official bath water territory.

It may also be related to this heatwave occurring with SE instead of SW or W winds.

I think you are right. SE wind can help blow in warmer waters off the edge of the Gulf Stream. Watch when the front goes through Friday and winds go offshore..near shore water temps will drop off a bit as the top warm layer is blown back out to sea.

Same bouy is now reading a surface temp of 67 this morning. Offshore wind and some upwelling blew that nice warm water further offshore. It will rebound.

Fairly typical following a cold front. The 80 at that bouy was the highest that I can remember. A record breaking ocean temperature week along the East Coast.

#WrightsvilleBeach's current water temp is 89 degrees. This is the warmest recorded since water temperature measurements began on the new Johnnie Mercer Pier in 2004. #ncwx pic.twitter.com/ogX1AKLNIv

Yeah, the GFS and NAM MOS drop FOK to the upper 40's. The current pressure of 30.38 in NYC is close to the all-time July high of around 30.43.

A record strong high pressure system for July brought delightful weather to the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes yesterday. Below are the records set for July based on hourly surface observations & the time matched WPC surface analysis. Pressure records website: wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/research/roth/…pic.twitter.com/hhAFRyCovO

Islip broke their record low. It's 53 currently

Our big temperature swings theme continues after the record high minimum of 76 on July 3rd at ISP. This was the fist July record low at ISP since 2009.

That’s exactly what I love. A nice storm off the coast. No damage and lots of waves. Also very early for this type of scenario

Looks like ISP only made it down to 54 tying their record.  It was showing 53 between hours.  Oh well.

It's impressive when any part of our area can at least tie a July 2009 record low following so much heat and humidity. The pattern is showing quite a bit of volatility or swings going back to last fall.

2 record lows have been tied this morning. Islip, NY has dropped to 54 degrees, which tied the previous record low for July 8 set in 1979. The temperature at JFK fell to 59 degrees, which tied the previous record low for July 8 set in 2009.
