Wow that’s impressive. The record all time high on mount Washington is only 72.

Northern New England is the current warm departure leader through July 3rd.

BTV....+15.5

EWR...+9.8

It's official! Mount Mansfield has officially tied it's all-time record high of 84 degrees this afternoon. Think we can hit 85 degrees? #vtwx

The heatwave really warmed the ocean temperatures since late last week. Some of the warmest SST departures on the planet are near the US East Coast.

Wow 79. Let’s pump those up to the low 80s.

87/77 here, might be too cloudy to hit 90

Yeah, I made it up to 88 before it got too cloudy, now I’m down to 85. Still steamy out regardless.

If we’re able to get some breaks in these clouds we might do it.

This probably helping to push these dews so high, especially for so early in July. It’s a swamp out there now. I can imagine what they might be in a few weeks if WAR holds firm ...

The bouy south of Fire Island Inlet just reached 80.2 degrees. So we are now in official bath water territory.

That buoy doesn’t often hit 80 in general. This has to be one of the earliest times in the year it’s done it.

And we weren’t starting with inflated temps either. It was a generally cool spring.

It may also be related to this heatwave occurring with SE instead of SW or W winds.

I think you are right. SE wind can help blow in warmer waters off the edge of the Gulf Stream. Watch when the front goes through Friday and winds go offshore..near shore water temps will drop off a bit as the top warm layer is blown back out to sea.
