yeah, everything about the weather is normal these days.

I've been saying for close to two years now, if you look at the AMO, PDO, ENSO, Solar, Modoki structure, active volcanoes, and unusual placement of weather...it looks like the early Dustbowl years. The warm Nino 1.2 cold Nino 3.4 in 2016-17 happened in 1931-32, with similar background conditions, after a big El Nino in 1930-31 with similar weather to 2015-16, both of which were after weak El Nino / warm Neutrals with similar solar activity and so on. Conceptually the background oceanic signals repeat in 30/60/120 year intervals, with a strong signal at 60 years in particular, but solar activity was higher in the 1950s, but very low in the early 1930s, 90 years ago.

The one aspect of the Dustbowl that I hope we avoid would be the complete lack of El Ninos between 1930-31 and 1939-40.

It's not that far away, though. The 1990s and 1980s had a slightly different pattern but you really have to go to the 1960s to be substantially different. The biggest difference I think is the Tropical Atlantic ridge.

Check out the Kocin/northeast snowstorms book. There was a big pattern change around 2013 I think. Or maybe 2007-2009.

and on a clear day..

surely some shill here will still use technical terms to deem this as normal.

Well, this "shill" thinks the "technical term" you're looking for is a dust devil. It's pretty clear that there wasn't much dust to pick up in this case, however. Soil moisture obviously isn't suffering with all that greenery around. It's otherwise an ideal environment for it. Dry air, clear skies and a very deep mixing layer. The extremely high bases on the fair weather cu (probably 7+ kft to this observer's eye) are a clue to that.

just another day at the beach...with 2 more days of downpours expected there.

Isn't "normal" weather the average of abnormal weather?  (Of course, the "normal" temps and heavy precip events have been moving upward in recent decades.)

Yes.

On top of that, in the information age, we can easily find weather records being set somewhere on any given day or month. This can cause a lot of anecdotes being presented that may not align with empirical data. As you mentioned, the two weather extremes that have seen most notable increases in recent years are higher temperatures and heavy precip events....though the precip changes have been more regional than global....they have been especially notable for the eastern half of the U.S. One should note though that the most robust piece of literature on the topic started its study in the late 1950s....of which that first 10 years from the starting point was an unusually dry period in the eastern U.S. (and U.S. as a whole), which will enhance the trendline. But even if you went back further into the late 19th century, the increase is still significant.

It's the extremes beyond the range of previous extremes (also referred to as standard deviations from the normal). Stop making excuses. This is not an emotional quest to make everyone feel better about our situation. It seems like the vast majority of individuals don't care about their posterity much less any other non-human species.

They should knowingly tread lightly because nature will come along and clean house (with the worst of intentions). Hell comes to breakfast.

not to mention that everyone has smart phones these days and events like this can be captured easily by anyone now.

These new threads qualities have greatly degenerated due to various conspiracy theory posters. This is a great site, and would be sad to see it being ruined by a few conspiracy theorists. @Wow

Political affiliation has nothing to do with intelligence. I'm sorry you are too short sighted to see the difference or have any meteorological knowledge and probably get your "knowledge" from Alex Jones and his fake doctor accomplice.
