Couldn’t....it’s a disaster up here

I'm very sorry your area was badly hit.

No one was wishing for a disaster.  No one wishes for death and destruction (there's actually 2 people i can think of that do but dont post about it on here).   Most people on these forums like extreme weather and enthusiastically post about it.  There's not one person that I know of that has any magical powers to actually make extreme weather happen.

Honestly it's incredible to track.  Would not wish destruction on anyone but tracking it and being excited by maps does not mean one is "rooting" it on.  (Which doesn't matter anyway, mother nature will do as mother nature wants)  Missed it by 20 miles here-Danbury and vicinity very hard hit.

wth...

..Abnormal surge and strong currents expected for the
oceanfront, inlets, and back bays through the overnight hours...

Air pressure sensor and tidal gage readings in and near the
coastal waters indicate that a weather-generated surge has been
triggered by the earlier line of thunderstorms as it moved over
the ocean. A surge of several inches up to 1 ft is expected to
affect the region over the next several hours.

The following impacts are possible along the coast...

Boat Owners...
Prepare for the following hazards...
Strong unpredictable currents
Surge up to one foot above normal astronomical tides causing
Minor coastal impacts during the times of high tide

At the beach...
Prepare for the following hazards...
High surf washing up the beachfront
Dangerous rip currents

Duration of the Event...
The duration of the event in uncertain, though similar events have
lasted from several hours to one day. It is not recommended
to return to the water until at least Wednesday morning.

The National Tsunami Warning Center is monitoring this event.
Additional statements will be issued if necessary through the
National Weather Service Forecast Office in New York, NY.

Large amount of storm reports up here in Orange County on Upton's  Local Storm Reports link.

It looks like the central & northern part of orange county took the brunt. From Port Jervis to New Windsor & everything in between. Lots and lots of tree damage everywhere.

The city of Newburgh is under an emergency declaration and all city streets are closed until further notice.

Looks like Newburgh was hit by a tornado. Extensive roof & tree damage.

This shot was taken on the thruway just north of Newburgh

When my wife was trying to get home thru the city, she said the down trees and limbs were lying in different directions. I noticed some rotation briefly until the rain obscured the view.

O&R isn't giving us a restoration time. Going on 5 hrs now. Generator ftw!

Yep generator since a little after 5 here too. At least now I have one. My street isn't even listed as one without power, sux being on a dead end :(  Cell towers are starting to power down now so service is really spotty. I'll probably go incognito soon.
