I have always stated, Maryland is the best place to live for weather in the Mid Atlantic. They get 8, I get 1 lmao. In the winter, Maryland gets decent snows. In the spring and summer, Maryland gets most of the rainfall. They also get to enjoy more of the exhilarating frantic water rescues. The soils in Maryland are saturated. They can take no more water. Yet inches of rain will destroy them over the next few days, while I, in lowly northeastern VA, will make do with 1-2 inches by late next week. No flash floods for me. No creek rises for me. Hoadly Run will not rise by even a millimeter, thru late next week. No frantic water rescues for me either.

You'd think that since I reside to the south, in the tropics, with all the tropical moisture hitting me first, I'd get more rain. 

Naaaaah.

This aint about Dale City. 

This is all about Baltimore.

Enjoy those frantic water rescues. You got saturated soils up there, and you are gonna get annihilated by 8 to 10 inches of torrential rain, and there will be EPIC flooding up there. There will be strainers, and people will get trapped in the strainers, and will try to hold their breath. There will be flood damage.

Dale City is safe. We dont get floods. Something always stops these storms so that we never get floods. I've spent fifty years waiting for a big flood on Hoadly Run. Never happened. Never will. The Goddess could drop 459 quintillion cubic feet of water in Dale City, and it would hit Baltimore instead. Maryland always wins. That goes for sports, too. I have been crying for a devastating flood for the past half century. I would give anything to be trapped in a Houston-magnitude flood, and I DO mean TRAPPED. With nowhere to go. Crying for help. On Twitter. As the waters rise to the ceiling!!!!! And I am in there!!!!! I LOVE FLOODS SO MUCH!

Maryland, ALWAYS WINS. No exceptions. This week is no exception either. Get those Arks rushed to completion up there, you're gonna need a much bigger boat LOL.

.11 total on 5/15/18. Total for month is 2.08. Missed pretty much everything yesterday. Not disappointed at all. Plenty of wet to wade thru the next 7 days. Monday nights storm was just run of the mill here. No severe. Had limited thunder and lightning last evening from fringe activity.  This is my last year living here in NOVA so I would like to see something memorable and a bit more of a winter before I move out. Be safe everyone.

As for NPZ -- they just forgot the decimal point.

That is a TON of rain though, and after heavy rains have already fallen in many areas.  As someone else posted, the Preakness is gonna be a mess!  That Kentucky Derby was during a 3+ inch rainfall.  Wonder if this might be the rainiest ever Derby/Preakness combo.

How on Earth did you manage to get 3' of snow during the Blizzard of 96? Was it like 1.2" liquid or something? I feel your pain. Almost as if you're in a shadow from the rain (maybe related to your elevation?), or maybe some sort of atmospheric memory voodoo

That is absolutely the case.  Someone here a while back posted an average annual rainfall map and there were 60-inch areas in those high elevations, and as low as 30-35" in NPZ land.  DC and Balt region averages about 40.

I lived in Front Royal at the time.  I'm sure this ****hole place got significantly less.

Case in-point:  I've received all of .19" today.  3 miles north there has been 1".  It was raining pretty hard at my job (just south of Winchester, 4 miles from my home) all afternoon.  Left for the gym after work and it was raining hard.  Came out of the gym (4 miles from my home) 2 hours later... still pouring.  Drove 2 miles south towards my home and broken clouds and not a drop.  Apparently it drizzled on and off throughout the day.  .19" in 12 hours.

I live in NPZ-east. .22 here all day. Same thing happens here all the time. Same with snow.

I should’ve specified he general vicinity of Frederick, which you aren’t that far from.

But based on radar estimates, all the 3-4” totals seem to be right near Frederick, which is really bad news after yesterday.
