THATS strange I’m back at home in The Bronx and there’s a solid 2.5-3 inches on the ground. ANd the snow is frozen! It’s much colder than in the city. You can’t even tell it snowed in manhattan!

That’s not true at all. Manhattan includes more then Times Square

6.7" final. That puts me a touch over 68" for the season.

That's really a wonderful season for Westchester. Granted, you have some elevation in the far northern part of the county, but still...

How much did you record there in 09-10 and 10-11? I had 68" and 69.5" in Dobbs Ferry.

The April snowfall makes it an A season.  And there could be more coming

Still a decent coating on most surfaces here in Pelham Gardens.

I actually enjoyed this snowstorm more than the late March one 1) it was in April so historic 2) it occurred mostly in the daytime so very photogenic

I was surprised at the difference between this and some of our more hyped storms this year; what came down here stuck quickly so far.

It's why I've often thought that the late night into morning hours are the best time for spring snowstorms.  It's not that the snow doesn't stick during the daytime, as long as you have heavy snow falling at daybreak it will continue to stick during the day at similar rates, you just need to have a decent snowcover already in place so the higher albedo counteracts the higher sun angle.  Plus morning heavy snowfall is very photogenic :) I enjoyed this storm more than the late March mostly night time one.

I think Dec-Mar is a long enough window for snow and cold, it’s gotten old now. And I hate when we go from one extreme to the other, spring seems like it’s going extinct, I’m sure April will be BN to N, and then we’ll be trapped on the wrong side of an omega block pattern for most of May before summer hits us like a ton of bricks.

3 inches here, get it out of here.

Well February was really mild so this is really just making up for that.  You probably got at least 4 inches.  I like going from winter to hot and dry because that puts the plants to sleep and the pollen season gets muted.  I like heat coming in May.  Severe wx season is useless around here, I dont even care if it doesn't rain more than one inch in any month between June and August.  I love how the snow ended the pollen season for now because I really couldn't breathe the last few days even with allergy medication.  Plus snow is  a lot prettier than the muddy alternative.

A friend of mine was in the Park by the castle where they measure and measured 5.5-5.7 inches at 9AM, it's doubtful nothing accumulated after 9 AM.

How many inches do they owe us through the years, and why do they under measure 90% of the time and hardly ever over measure? Mind boggling.

It's very hard to tell, I started taking pictures around 9 am and although very light snow fell for about another hour it did not exceed the rate of melting around here, likely all accumulation stopped right around 9 AM or 9:30 at the latest.

Another laughable JFK total. At least Central Park seemingly did its job today. That brings NYC up to 41”?

The amount of snow we had was very similar to April 2003, so I'd say 5 inches at least (which was the JFK measurement for April 2003).  What were the liquid equivalents for our area in this storm?

6.1" here.  The April 2003 storm was 6.2"  4/9-10/1996 we had a foot.  Temp up to 33 with just a little light graupel still falling.

I measured on a board today.  Just for giggles I tried carefully measuring in the grass.  That came out around 7" even though I was being careful not to push the ruler too far.  For you guys who don't use a board (or "eyeball").

Season total is 65"

I concur with your measurements, and looking back at pictures I took of 4/03, the amount of snow was very similar, it just fell in a shorter time lol

Melting like crazy now, but great rates. Very nice event all around to say the least!! I guess I’ll go with what you guys have which is 5-6” since I’m not home now and had to commute in this garbage (roads were terrible). That would put me at 47-48” for the season. I was worried about being screwed from subsidence again but certainly didn’t happen.

I think 6" is what you had with 4/03 too?

Third Yankee home opener since 1982 canceled by a snow storm. April 6 1982 9.6 inches, more like a foot in the Bronx, & April 7th 2003 4.0 inches closer to 5-6 in Bronx and now today 4.8 inches so far at KNYC .

In 1996 the April 9th home opener they played in Mid 30's and various snow intensity throughout the entire game. They still replay that game on YES, it's pretty funny to watch. At some points in the game the snow begins to stick to the outfield grass.

the 1996 storm was 4-5 inches at JFK and the 2003 storm was 6-8 around here.

I agree. It's been a long time since the area has had such a large April snowstorm (1982 for most locations though 1996 for parts of Long Island where the 4/9-10/1996 storm brought a significant snowfall).

Don I dont know what the story was for NYC measurements in 4/03 but that was a 6-8 storm and the 4/96 storm was 4-5 as close as JFK

yea definitely.  Combo of being in the good rates and coming at night.

and morning snow is very photogenic :) and no problems sticking during the day as long as a nice snowcover is laid down beforehand.

I have 48" on the season in the Bronx. I didn't do quite as well on the 3/21 event as Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. Totals were 8-10" here versus 12-14" there.

How did you do in the 1/4 event? We got between 14-16 in that event and between 11-15 in the 3/22 event.

I'm in Putnam, only 1/4 mile in but... ;)  And yeah 700 feet makes a big difference. I went down to Croton Falls this morning and just 2 hours after it stopped snowing there was very little left to show for it.

I don't keep written records so would have to go back through my late season posts from those years. I do remember being quite a bit ahead of you those years and having a deeper snowpack for longer based on your posts from the time.

During the April 1996 snowstorm, southern portions of Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn received quite a bit more snow than northern parts of the City. There was a large gradient in the City. JFK picked up 4.0". LGA received just 0.2". At Central Park, a trace was reported. As the storm rapidly developed, areas to the north and east of NYC received a significant snowfall. Bridgeport received 7.9" and Islip had 8.5".

and considering from January 5 through March 7 very little of that snow fell....crazy book-ended season....

Does anyone have the final PNS for the storm?  From what I've read, the minimum snowfall report from our area was 3.5" and the maximum was 8.0"- does that sound about right?
