It is what it is, unfortunately. If I recall, earlier this winter, even as photos showed the ground covered by snow, the Park reported a trace.

The trees blocking the temperature sensor and the poor snow measurements make it more like a poorly maintained backyard wunderground site.

I'm totally flummoxed on how those Terryville and PJ Station numbers (19.7 and 18.9) could be accurate. I'm on the Terryville/PJ Station border and we had a MAX of 12" no matter how "optimistically" I measured. I guess it's possible that a half-mile south of me got nearly twice as much snow, but...

The trees blocking the temperature sensor and the poor snow measurements make it more like a poorly maintained backyard wunderground site.

My 2 cents on the best way to get this to change is to put it in terms $$$, as in aid that NYC misses out on from the state because they can't justify asking for as much $ as they'd like because the snow totals are artificially low.  I'm making this up  but I bet that there's enough truth in it that it could be enough to get the necessary investment to address the issue.

Had 12.5" here at 6am.  Took 3 hours to dig out and get off my block to go to work.  No plows in sight for the side roads.

Btw I'm not the trained spotter so I guess i did an ok job lol .

Very fast melting as you would expect this late in the season. The 6.5" that I got yesterday is almost all gone already. Bare ground in sunny areas.

Yeah similar to the Feb storm. The early march snow stuck around for days though with temps around 40 and little sun plus it froze into concrete the next night.

Yeah it was nice that our early March snow stayed on the ground for quite awhile. It was like 8 or 9 inches of cement, so it took quite awhile to melt.

It is what it is, unfortunately. If I recall, earlier this winter, even as photos showed the ground covered by snow, the Park reported a trace.

It sounds right to me. I was in better banding then Central Park to their East and ended with 10.9". I could see why I would get 2"-2.5" more then them.

We're definitely melting quickly in Long Beach. Snow is rapidly disappearing from pavement and even on the grass we have considerably less.
Ridge, Centereach, Smithtown & all the locales in the northern shore which I have passed today have exhibited a plethora of melting and compaction. One place at my buddy's house which originally measured 19" is down to 13.2" and this was as of 1300.

So I got home to wantagh at 8am and measured and got an average of 11”. At 7am the Wantagh spotter reported 11” as well. Obviously there was compaction overnight. What should I put in my logs???

I think you’re supposed to measure once the snow ends, and it’s one measurement on a board per 24 hours. When did it end? Around 3-4am? I measured about 11” as well early this morning around 6:45, but I have no idea of what compacted before then. It also wasn’t on a board. Crazy-it looks nothing like that much fell now with how much it’s melting.

Big difference between early March and late March. It's common to have snowpack in the region through around March 10th, then it gets progressively more difficult as average highs approach 50F near the equinox.

The March 2004 equinox storm melted in one day. We had 8" around dawn in Dobbs Ferry, then by dusk it was all gone.

That’s the problem I was in the city then getting subsidence. I think I’ll go with 13” based off Massapequa having several 14” measurements.

amazing melting rates for such dense snow pack. Had it been early January and cold we would have this around for a long time

I had no idea they changed the rules on that.  I thought you were supposed to clear the board every 6 hours.  I always wonder what airports do with those hourly measurements.  I assume measure in a different place because I’ve seen SNINCR 2/5 one hour then next hour I see SNINCR 2/6 so they must be measuring the total on the ground in a different spot (I would hope),
