lol, What a pussified society we live in now, Shouldn't the school superintendent wait until 3-4 am to see what the road conditions are and get a forecast from NWS before making a call? At least if your not sure, Put in a 2 hr delay.

That's what Greenfield schools do.  We get the 5 AM robot call.  The only exceptions have been the last two storms where inflated forecasts and media hype caused night before cancellations.  Greenfield DPW has a house rule where they don't even send plows out if the forecast is under 3".

There’s never a storm where you don’t post about 1 model showing a CT snowhole. Honestly it’s uncanny how you search for 1 every storm and then they never happen .. or rarely

TT has IJD at 3" snow on >1" of QPF.

It never snows there anymore according to some posters, so I like to perpetuate that by pointing out the models that show it.

There are probably some Connecticut posters that would disagree with you.  I know, you can default and say " they all live in the valley".

Times have changed. People and parents are sue happy. Don’t blame the kids... it’s the parents.

The late Jan surprise 7” event here was not good. Schools were open and the superitendent had to devote part of a meeting to fielding questions and complaints from angry parents.

whole heartedly. they really screwed the pooch on the storm 2 weeks ago...even though we picked up a about an inch of snow overnight...there was bare pavement and it was clear the next round of accumulating snow wouldn't move in until at least 1-2pm (ended up being 5pm in reality), they still made the call to cancel. Why they couldn't have the kids come in then do an early dismissal is beyond me. Then had to cancel the next day cause most of the town was without power. Looking like school until July this year.

6-10 still a good bet for mby.

Agreed - think double digits will be fairly rare until you get into SWCT / NYC metro. Wouldn’t be surprised if some are in the 4-5” range - this is going to be tough to pile up outside of banding.

The trend toward calling school the night before is to give parents -- especially single parents -- some time to arrange alternatives for childcare. If there's a day off when one isn't needed, that's a bummer and an extra day in June.  If you don't know until 5am the day of, though, you may only have an hour to arrange childcare.

Better to prioritize both physical safety and family financial security than some glorified idea of the "toughness" of New England to weather the storm.

KBOX 88D will be down until further notice as part of the WFO BOX office move. We
anticipate being down no later than this Friday, March 23.

Perfect timing

Also many households both parents work.

You could also argue that the kids are safer in a 50 ton bus driving 20mph through town than having parents rushing around finding daycare. I'd bet there are more acidents/injuries due to marginal school cancellations than actual school bus crashes.
