Yeah, I'm not sleeping tonight. This has all time synoptic potential for me.

Is it not enough that you get the massive SW lake effect events, now you are going to cash in a monster synoptic event too!  Damn you, damn you.....

SPC discussion

MD 104 graphic

  Areas affected...Portions of northeast OH...northwest PA...and
   western NY

   Concerning...Heavy snow

   Valid 020143Z - 020745Z

SUMMARY...Moderate/heavy is expected overnight. Snowfall rates of 1+
inch per hour are expected, with localized rates in excess of 2
inches in the most intense snow bands.

DISCUSSION...Latest surface analysis shows a surface low progressing
eastward/northeastward near Pittsburgh, PA. Meanwhile, satellite
imagery indicates northern/southern stream phasing currently
underway over Ohio, with mid-level trough becoming negatively tilted
over the area. As this occurs, strong deep layer ascent associated
with intense frontogenetical forcing and a coupled upper-level jet
structure is expected to promote strong lift through a saturated
dendritic growth layer. Snowfall rates of 1+ inch per hour will be
common across the MCD area, with localized rates in excess of 2
inches per hour in the strongest bands. Snowfall rates are expected
to decrease in intensity late tonight as the surface low progresses
east of the area and deep layer ascent diminishes.

While rain is currently being observed across southern portions of
the MCD area, strong low-level cold air advection and dynamic
cooling is expected to increase tonight as the center of the surface
low progresses just south of the area. This will lead to a rapid
transition from rain to moderate/heavy snowfall near 0600Z.

All the jumpers need to back down.  I was starting to get a little skeptical but it has really started picking up the last 20 minutes after that slow start.  Only a coating out there at 9 but just stepped out again and up to 1/2" on the board.  Once that first coat gets down it will pile up quickly... Think there will be a sharp and large cutoff from north to south of BUF.

Snowing nicely in Pittsford. Just SE of Rochester. Went straight to snow. No rain.

That met who called for 4-7” in Roc is gonna look pretty bad I think. Good he went with his gut but he also has a fever (for real).

Scott Hetsko

4-7 seems reasonable as the NWS only had me at 6-10 with the point and click during most of the lead up to this storm when the track was much further north.  The storm is definitely a few ticks further south than progged and deformation/wrap around snow seems to be diving SE into Ohio and PA.  The winds are pretty awesome though so I can at least be happy about that.  Always a fan of wind events.

And poor Hetsko, the dude loves these big events and he starts getting the flu on one of the bigger storms of the season, that sucks!

Not certain where to post but just took a weenie trip to catskills hotel.

Only about 1800' elevation but still pretty solid

Arrived 40 mins ago to 40 degrees and light drizzle.  Got my room  key and Took a weenie drive up scribner hollow road. Hit a wall of white at 2200' and temp fell to 33.

Back down at hotel its 36 and fat drops, should/better flip soon

You should do very well at that location and elevation!  Once the heavier precipitation starts you should flip.
