Here’s a quick, easy to understand video on Sting Jet mechanics from the UK Met Office if your friends are asking what it is:

Super-helpful, thank you.   Could das or anyone else answer the following:  What features depicted in the models provide an alert for this possibility?  It seems to be a combo of bombogenisis and a mechanism that forces the jet stream to mix down into the boundary layer.

Rain just ended here with 0.40” in the bucket.  And as soon as it stopped winds started ramping up.  Already sustained 15-25 with a couple of gusts above 40 mph.

The ground feels like a wet sponge.  I am afraid there are gonna be a lot of trees coming down by morning.

Hit Purcellville about 20 minutes ago. Winds sustained in the low 20s.. gusts well into the 30s. Awesome quick clear out with a bright moon and beautiful stars with some cumulous as the clouds departed, lit up by the moon! Got gassed up and some water in case!

ha, yea i caved and got a case of water, though i also was out of it, so not completely wind related.
