I don’t think ACK mixed iirc? They started as snow with a screaming ESE wind. How often does that happen lol.

I’ll have to look at the obs. Yeah maybe for an hour or two around midnight or so.

Looks like they had some issues between 3am and 6am. They report rain a couple times but the SN- is like 2-5 mile vis, so it's prob RA/SN mix and a temp of 33-34F.

When they flipped back to snow though, their precip sensor must have crapped out....but check out the vis and wind, lol:

This storm was by far the worst snowstorm I have ever witnessed.  By far my most favorite tempest, the blizzard conditions kept my father from plowing after noon that day on Sunday the snow was so bad he couldn't continue to plow, he rescued an ambulance that was stuck in the snows as well.  Front loaders had to plow the streets.  Winds were gusting over 75mph for a good portion of Sunday, then the final band swept through with 5-6"/hour snowfall rates.  My best storm ever

The 2006 SNE WX conference had a loop saved from that storm and Dec 2005. For whatever reason it seems like they only go back to 2009 as far as previous conference presentations go, which is too bad. You can find the images in multiple archived sites like weather.us,  Iowa state...etc.

Look at that inflow and convergence from Boston down

An all timer for sure.  Miss messenger who was reporting literally house moving winds with blizzard conds.

I also remember that Saturday morning.  Bitter cold as clouds were gathering.  My wife and daughter were in Chicago on a trip I was to go on but I refused to go...lol.  So I met a friend for breakfast and was talking to people in the restaurant.  2 young ladies in Boston from NC were looking at colleges.  I asked them if they were ready for the blizzard?  They had no idea!

Later that day just before flakes began I had to get a new phone.  My new silver flip phone was the cats meow...lol.  By midnight visibility was feet.  The next day I shoveled 28 inches after snow ended and went over to my friends house to watch the Patriots NFC championship game.

People kind of forget the over achieving clipper that came through a few days later.

Good Times!

Great storm if you lived in Boston (Boxing Day)

yes...even when it was so obvious no one manned up and said "looks like the worst will miss us blah blah"....I don't even think amounts were really big until one got into RI, and towards worcester

I think we were comparing pack of January 2011 vs February and beyond 2015.  2004-05 started earlier.

'04-'05 really started with boxing day...it did have that November event though (but then again, so did 2014...at least west of BOS). Jan 2005 was weird...it had a couple decent events early in the month despite generally mild temps (New Years was a furnace)...one snow event that gave 6-9" for the pike region was an ice storm down in CT in Kevin's hood. Then we got a bigger thaw around Jan 11-15...followed by absolutely brutal cold and 2 clippers prior to the blizzard...I think each clipper was like a 2-4" type deal (maybe some lollis higher in SE MA?)....then of course the blizzard itself...then as you mentioned earlier, the Jan 26th over-performing clipper. Parts of SE MA had 10-12" in that. I had 6-7" when I think 3-5" was forecast. What a great stretch that was. The cold before the blizzard was exceptional...kind of gets overshadowed by both the blizzard and the even more obscene cold a year prior in 2004, but that stretch was no slouch, I think BOS got below zero and also logged multiple highs in the teens.

The pack in my hood in Marshfield after the clipper post blizzard was very similar to the pack after the Jan 96 blizzard in Brockton. You could argue 96 was meatier and perhaps a few more inches, but it was sort of a fake 3' pack. Not much water content. 2015 was just on another level, and I think the pack on 2/2/11 when I lived in Dorchester rivaled 96 and 05 when you weigh in water content and depth. The depth in 2011 maybe wasn't quite 96 or 05, but that was a man pack.
