When I got to the pond this evening there was a little splotch of either virga or a cloud that the Sun was illuminating and making some rainbow colors. Hopefully you can see the color either above the car or the second tall tree from the right side. It was not much color but it was something...

Another smoky sunset here. They only give low contrast, low color sunsets.

Only interesting shot was one of only a minor technical issue. I was able to indirectly see the Sun while I was blocked direct path with the bill board. With the camera being three to four feet above the reflective surface (the water), I could see the Sun while not really seeing the Sun. Kinda cool.

The clouds were kind of out there to the west this evening. Had to go with the 24-70mm for the extra reach.

This second image is only four minutes after the first. You can see just how quick the sunsets are getting already. This one also shows the smoke a bit better.

Nice night out at the pond with it only being a little on the muggy side.

When I got to the pond, the view to the south east was photogenic...

I hoped there would be a red flash with the Sun sneaking out at the last second. Well there was but it was more orange rather than red...

And way past late but I liked the distant cloud shadows and I ended up making the colors a little over the top in trying to make the shadows stand out better. It is what it is....

I had high hopes for the sunset this evening. The only badnews/goodnews  thing was the wind. Was fairly stiff so there was zero chance at any reflection shots. But that just meant that not using any filters allowed me to be more accurate on the color.

The white when I got to the pond...

Most of the time, contrails make me grind my teeth. Other times like this evening they can really add to the feeling of depth in an image...

When I got to the pond this evening, this was one of my first images. I did not realize it till I got home and downloaded but there was some crepuscular rays going on close to the Sun. The glare prevented me from seeing them. Glad I took the image so I could *see* it...

Max dynamics on the color. Just about the whole kitchen in this one. From magenta to red and orange and even a bit of yellow. Not to mention the blues...

Started the day with crepuscular rays and going to end it with crepuscular rays also. These shadows are from well over the horizon as the come from the tops of cells in Iowa...

There was a chance that the back edge of the front would just make it far enough east to give me a colorful sunset so I had to be out there just in case.

When I got to the pond, Still lots of clouds...

I missed a day here. Life gets in the way sometimes. All of these are from 9-16. Was a busy day behind the viewfinder. Morning, noon and evening.

Started off the morning with sun dogs/iridescence...

Some of the sun dogs were rather vivid...

The evening started off with a rather vivid sun dog also...

For a long time I have tried to get a late, late post sunset with backscatter light with some high altitude still  sort of in white. I came kind of close last evening. Was worth all the mosquito bites...

While last night was the race of clouds departing the area and the sunset, this evening was the race of clouds returning to the area and the sunset.

Started with the yellow...

I made a mistake this evening though. I thought the color was done and over with and started driving back home. By the time I got halfway home the sky to the north was going red, rather nicely. So I was only to catch the red slightly past peak from the front yard instead...

This evening I got engrossed in a book at dinner. Did not think there would be any sunset possibilities. Well when I left the diner the sky was doing a nice visual yellow flash. By the time I made it home to grab the camera and car and get to the closest open western horizon only the last dregs of color was left. This is the best I could do...

I do not know what causes it but October sunsets always seem rather amped up. Maybe it is just that I know the solid stratus of winter is soon around the corner. But until then I am going to enjoy these like I did this evening.
